I think I fried my seeds!!??!

I'm germinating 5 seeds in the soil that they're going to grow in, as I don't plan on transplanting them at all. The temperature here at home has been getting into the 50's at night, and was only 68 at noon today, so while I was home on my lunch break I turned on my 400W metal halide lamp to get some heat going in the room (The light is 24" away from the tops of the pots) .... when I left for work, the temp right below the light was 84 degrees.... sweet! perfect for germinating!.............

When I got home from work, 4.5 hours later, the temperature at the tops of the pots was 100!!! Temperature must have slowly risen in the room over the afternoon. As soon as I saw the temp was that high, I immediately vented out the room, and watered the pots. I'm an idiot. I know the seeds are good quality because they are from a reputable seed bank.... what are the chances I ruined my seeds???

Nope buddy I think youll be ok here. It depends though. How long was it in room when the temp was at 100 degrees?

I really can't say. If I had to take a guess, I would say 3 hours or so. I just planted these seeds 48 hours ago, it would suck if I ruined them already! I can see that I'm going to need an exhaust fan.

Yea buddy you should still be all good. I had a temp problem not too long ago and it got up to 90 degrees for a couple days! So yours should be all good. It should be pokin its head out any time now!!

Has anyone else had any experience with seeds getting too hot? ... I have 5 fresh seeds left that I could plant..... I don't want to spend all my time and energy cultivating these 5 plants if they're just gonna turn out to be male because of the early stress. ..or maybe they won't sprout at all now.... What should I do? ..just wait?

I wouldn't worry about it. I bet at max your soil temp was was in the 80s due to thermodynamics. In any case I'd just go on and hope for the best. I'm sure plants germinate outdoors in 100+ degree weather all the time. All indoor growers do is create a near perfect environment to max yields and have higher success rates so just remember things can and will grow/live in less than ideal environments all the time.

Just an update here...

Today, my curiosity got the best of me, and I started poking around in the soil to see if I could find anything happening down there. To my surprise I found a tiny stem that was bent over like a hook(I believe this is the way the stem pushes its way to the surface)... It looked healthy, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my little girls survived.

I turned my light on again today, but this time I put an oscillating fan on, and opened up both of the windows... also raised the light 8" higher. This is my first indoor grow, so it will be a learning experience for me. I can see that keeping the temperature under control is going to be my main concern.

The stem bending down like a hook is 100% normal. A couple years ago I wondered this to since I had never grown a plant and couldn't ask anyone cause I was underage lol. Sraightens up after like 2 or 3 days.

What light cycle should you use after seeds have sprouted? I have 5 seeds sprouted (using them as mothers and bought 100% feminized seeds) but because I have always grown from clones at my local co-op I dont know what light cycle to use

18 light / 6 dark for veg, and 12/12 for flowering.
