First Time Grower (Pics) Iso Advice

Hello, I am New to the forums. I have been reading others threads. This is my first attempt at growing. I started my Plants on June 5th. so they are 14 days old in these pictures. Half of the plants i have i germinated the seeds in a jar with a towel and water. the other half i just threw the seeds right in the soil. i am usen Miracle Grow Potting Soil in all of them atm. For lights i have been usen 3x 100watt equivalent flourescent lights i believe. There is a picture of 1. ignor the yellowness there not yellow. For the first week i was watering fairly heavily i have slowed down now. and now i am usen a water bottle to water them wetting the leaves and given the soil a about 4-5 full sprays each time. 24/7 light The little guys are 2 days old. Idk what ima do with them yet i only want 2-3 female plants. figured i would plant more to secure my future with females just in case all 7 of my first ones where males
.At this time i have a few questions.

How does the progress look for there age?
I took a shot of 1 of the plants from the top and the side. where the leaves seem to be curling and showing signs of brown dots. What does this mean
Also i noticed in the pictures some of the roots seem brown. does this mean i am over watering and the roots are rotting?

I am very limited on space and what u see if about all i have. i can move a few more things outa there to make more space but thats about it. any advice on anything would be appreciated.

looking good but.....dont use see through cups....it damages the roots....n/m i see the red ones now that u got the green cup in.

pull the domes off the clamp lights get some Y adapters and some 6500k cfl's (blue light) maybe transplant into 1/2 gal milk jugs ? can buy a cheap emergency blanket in the camp section to keep the light contained. get a cheap ph tester and if your using bottled water goto a jug of reverse osmosis water prolly cheaper

would i be usen the blanket to cover any gaps on the door where light might be getting out? how would i be usen the blanket? and does it matter what watt 6500ks i get? just the highest i cant find maybe? i will be going to the store to look into a few more items i will need. soon.

Yeah its my first time so i wanted to be able to monitor there roots so i figured that trick might work

well with the domes off and with added Y connectors and more cfls that corner will be lit up like a xmas tree the blanket is to kinda make a tent over the lights as to not blind yerself coming in the room yeah whatever yer clamp lamp is rated to if its a 150w rated then you could stick 4 or so 100w equiv cfls as they only draw 23w per bulb

im not the biggest or the best but check my grow journal (the link) for an idea of how you may want to setup

Alright so i took your advice and i added some splitters removed the cones and added 3x 6500's see how it goes. forgot to look for the blanket.

I also noticed the lights i was usen are only 75 watt 2700's so now im usen 3x 75 watt 2700's and 3x 100watt 6500's

at this stage should i only have the 6500s going? maybe 6 of them. the lights thing is confusing me abit reading all the different threads. are the 2700s for budding? and in that case then i dont need to be usen those for along time. and another question. how long should i wait untill i change lighting cycles from 24 hours to 12/12? and is that also when i want to use the 2700's?

You're going to want to use 5500+ spectrum cfls for this stage of growth. The 2700s are for flowering. Though it won't hurt to use them at this time, its just not practical, replace them with some of the other 6500s you have to get the most out of the watts you're burning.

The plants look good, nice and developed for 2 weeks time. Though you say ignore the yellowing. I'm concerned about the leaves texture it looks to me like the very tips are on the verge of browning and the leaves themselves look a bit dry.

DO NOT give them any nutes this early in as that Miracle Grow soil is hot right out the bag and good for at least a month. Then start fertilizing at 1/4 strength.

P.S. The roots are looking good and its going to be time for a transplant pretty quick to a permanent home

Also if it isnt due to nutrient burning those brown spots could be from your tap water's PH and/or chlorine content

It could be from the water. i noticed the leaves looking abit dry also the past few days i have been maken sure to spray them down fairly often to maybe try to keep them moist but a second plant started to show leaves curling up aswell. but at the same time. after reading alot more threads im watering them alot more then is recommended... (seems to be the most commen mistake for noobs)

yeah 2700k's are for flowering 6500k's for vegging would realy drop the lights to 18/6 as 24hr light cycle is pointless imo and depending on what size you want them in converting to 12/12 but 2 months veg should be sufficient

when you say the lights are using 75 watts and 100 watts, did you look on the little ballast? --> its that white part of the CFL just under the spiral that illuminates that you hold on to when you are screwing it into a socket. read it and it tells you how many watts are actually used. I think you may have read the boxes that you got them in which may have 75 watts and 100 watts advertised on them. This is the incandescent equivilent, meaning if you just swapped an incandescent out and put a CFL in its place, it would put out as much light as a 75 and 100 watt incandescent.

i changed the lights out now im running 6x 6500k 100watt cfl's and i added a timer. idk if i was able to figure it out correctly or not but i guess time will tell. tried to set it 20/4

good, that timer will be your best friend. hook it up to one of those long power splitters so your fan and lights will all synchroniously shut off (fan is optional actually). this will pretty much be required for flowering unless you never leave your room.

last thing i should tell you is that you should definatly get at least a 400w HPS. thats going to require at least a 400w ballast. its going to be the most expensive equipment for your grow (around $50- $200) but will be well worth it bc it will give you some nice bud. try craigslist for cheap deals (i got 2x 600w hps ballasts for $40). its possible to do it with just CFLs but you wont get the same kind of yield.

oh and one more thing, i see that 'ISO' is listed as a tag for this thread. ISO is actually a certain type of file. Yes, it is called an image file but im pretty sure it doesnt mean the kind of image humans would be able to see. if you get a large file over the internet, it's usually zipped and must be extracted from being a .iso file. once extracted, it clearly shows accessable files, folders, and sub-folders

i typed ISO as in In Search Of . and yes the 100 Watt's Actually use 26 er something like that. they are the 6500's. I think i figured the timer out. (shoulda gone digital) and if you look in the picture i have a fan going atm alrdy i keep it on low the plants seem to not mind it much. some times ill see 1 side of the plant blown over to the other side er something but its not doing dmg. i think im set up fairly decent for the next cupple weeks. might need to transplant into there final home soon.
