Having trouble making thc pills

A few weeks ago I bought a 00 capsule filler, some empty gel caps, and a tamper. So far I have made 3 batches. It seems every batch has somehow gotten more time consuming than the one before it. My main problem is that the gel caps get very soft and don't want to go back together. I didn't have this trouble the first time, only the last two.

My first batch I did not use any corn starch to thicken my bud/coconut oil mixture. I used too much oil, and ended up with a very runny mix.

The second and third times, I used corn starch to thicken the mix to more of a paste. The second batch was done while the oil was still a little warm, so I figured that's why they got so soft. But the third batch was only about 80F, and still did the same thing.

Does corn starch dissolve gelatin? Any suggestions? Everything goes smoothly until I go to put the tops back on the capsules. It seems like they just get slightly out of shape, and they just turn to mush while I'm capping them. +rep for any help. This is getting pretty frustrating.

Whats the temp of the oil/bud mixture when adding? Personally when I make the capsules i let it cool without letting it harden and suck out the oil and distribute evenly to all the pills then fill them about 3/4 way full, while lightly packing, and then i fill the top pieces just a little a put them in the freezr to solidify the pill. I have to keep mine in the fridge though and if i take them anywhere i carry them in a bag with a cold pack. just a suggestion

About 75-80F last time. Coconut oil turns solid at a relatively high temp, so I'm not sure I could have it much cooler than that.

What type of oil do you use?
its might be the corn starch then

or

are they vegetarian capsules? cuz those will fall apart when exposed to the oil. you should have gelatin

Edit: i use NOW organic coconut oil. i get all my stuff from bodybuilding.com

I've heard some people say that a longer simmer time can cause more of a sleepy/body type stone, while a shorter cook time causes more of a head high. Have you noticed anything like that?

+rep for the help

hi, this is cool, ive never seen anything like this,... you need to post a complete tutorial on this with pics,...
ive thought of encapping buds ground into dust, and just compressed, like hash,.. what would be the difference in that and what youre doing,....

Ive thought about that...

the difference would be having the fats acting as a vehicle for the THC. you wont feel anything just eating bud since your body is going to have a hard time absorbing/digesting that THC

well i think youre going to have a hard time with any gel caps then,... why dont you just roll em into little gum balls and dip them in candy coating, like m&m's,.... you can get that stuff at michaels crafts stores

actually you can take about a tablespoon of water and a cup of sugar and melt it down,.. boil it on low till it turns amber ,... this colour of boiled sugar will turn in to a hard glass like coating when cooled,.... take your little oil balls, put a toothpic in each one and chill them in the fridg 15 min before hand dip them and cool till hard and you can remove the toothpic if you want to, dust them with powderd sugar to prevent sitcking and then wrap each one in a piece of wax paper!!

Here's the recipe I've used:
https://www.rollitup.org/2155985-post4.html

The only changes I made were 00 size pills, and coconut oil instead of olive oil. I liked this recipe because I'm not having to strain out the weed. I'm thinking maybe my next batch I will cook much longer at a lower temp, and leave out the cornstarch.

Here's another recipe:http://www.cannabismd.org/reports/mjcapsules.php

And another, I'm not too sure about the microwave though: http://www.420magazine.com/forums/420-kitchen/47071-thc-pills.html

I might try this one next time: http://www.stonerforums.com/lounge/food-drinks/3983-home-made-thc-pills.html

Have you considered trying Cannabrex? Each component and ingredient was designed and selected to optimize the THC capsule experience. If you have any questions, I'd be glad to help you out.

How is cannabrex different than what I'm doing? I looked at the kit a while ago and it seemed very similar to what I already have. I read somewhere that grapeseed oil is what the kit uses, you know if there is any truth to that? Thanks for the input.

Howard,

We do not use grapeseed oil. Where did you read that? We make an oil blend, which is unique in that it is recognized by your body as a carb, so it gets absorbed sooner than other fats or oils. Most fats and oils, including olive oil, hemp oil, coconut oil, etc, are recognized as fats, which are stored for later use, thus the long period of waiting for the effects. Also the Cannabrex 3X increases the absorption rate into the bloddstream.

Also, you seem to be having problems with your caps melting, which will not happen with the Cannabrex kit. We spent many hours developing the best way, and we consulted with pharmacists and nutriceutical formulators. Some people say we are just trying to rip you off, but if you look at the price of a kit and divide it by the number of caps you can make, it is pretty cheap. Also, we have done all the work for you.
