EXCEPTION: Ron Paul :-P (hopefully)
I'd say Ron Paul is definitely the exception that proves the rule. He had a successful practice as a doctor. There are of course others that left the private sector out of disgust at what the public sector was doing, but Ron Paul is the best example of those.

The way to bring in the Independent party from the cold is to make a coalition platform with a Rep. as Pres., and Paul as V.P. To me that is the only way for the Indies, to break the monopoly.

And how the hell someone like John McCain won the republican ticket with a guy like Paul, and another guy like Kucinich... I think that just shows how the republican base is different from the actual real republican leaders who represent the party. If the majority of the republican party had ideals like Paul, instead of just laugh at everything he comes up with because it's never been done before, getting rid of the FED and whatnot, they'd have easily won the election against Obama. There's people that sit there and say how they'd of smashed the competition if Palin was on the main ticket, as if she was some sort of super genius when it comes to anything presidential... They can't even see they had a fuckin' goldmine right in front of their eyes with Paul, he's the one that should have won the republican nomination. McCain and Palin might as well have been Al and Peggy Bundy...

Yes, but they wouldn't have sold out our grandchildren. Whatever type of presidency we have , the first and foremost rule is, do no harm.

Apparently the guy writing the memo's that go to the presidents is on vacation or something. The first rule is do not harm? Name me one president who hasn't harmed America.

That's too wide a question to be pinned down paddy.

Let's put it this way. "Doing no harm" is supposed to be the GOAL. I just don't see it as a goal with this administration. They have abandoned American time tested principles. Not good, and it will all end very very badly. We are not immune to collapse. With Obama, the time table is being pushed way ahead......

Washington, who resisted being named King and thus guaranteed our Republic.

Jefferson, who purchased the Louisiana Territory from France.

Jackson, who closed the Second Bank of the United States.

Debatable.

All of which served in public office more than 100 years ago...

Well if its debatable, then debate.

Market Place of ideas...

Washington and Jefferson are two of my top 10 presidents, but both of them owned slaves... CJ said the main goal of a president was not to cause harm to America. By keeping slaves, they set an example and basically said that white people are superior, which led to another 160 years of full blown slavery. I doubt they could have done anything major about it at that time, but still, they did it. That one fact alone shows how much harm they both indirectly caused America, and millions of Americans.

Can't say much about Jackson, as I don't know very much about the guy.

This administration couldn't be more ignorant on economics, I swear...

Neither could the last one. What this country needs is a Democrat President and a Republican Congress. A Republican Congress and a Republic (Neocon) President is bad, a Democrat Congress and a Democrat President is bad, too. The only one that approached any functional approach towards sustainable government was under Clinton and the Republican Congress.

As far as Jefferson, he actually did try to get slavery abolished in Virginia. You should go see if your library has a biography of him. What you might learn could change your opinion of him.

Washington, on the other hand, I just know that he resisted calls for himself to assume kingship and name himself Rex... of course, I am willing to entertain a debate as to whether or not that was the best course of action. Especially based on the policies of this administration and the last one.

Back to Ron pauil that I was asked about.. i say don't vote for him as he would split the tickets and make any election skewed. He is too idealistic for my needs and does not have a hard enough stance for a strongly built military and personally i do not want a pot head running the country..weird huh? but yeah I want a clear headed person in office at this time of life and Paul to me is like Ross Perot has so good ideas but is little to all over the place for me....I am at a diuscagreement with brutal though on the need for a democarate president as they just do not work out as that party has gone so far to the "ME" side it no longer can function as a controller of a entire group. I do think it would be nice to get a more balance congress with all ne fresh blood with a more moderate leaning but I would also like a strong moderate republican for pres whose focus is not on religion, abortion rights or wrong, does not make a stance for or against gay rights and is consumed with the rebuilding of or financial infulstructure and military needs.I want a no nonsense president that the world looks at like ok this guy is serious we need to be on his side and not screw with them. What we have now and in a lesser version for Clinton is a total lack of world respect and a weak front man who has no idea how to be strong. I do not know who will be the one to fit this role and I do not know if we will be ableto clean congress out but that would be an ideal setup to me.Less give it to me for free programs. More bebfits to keep outsourcing down via tax breaks and cuts for companies and thier owners. I would like to see a heavier crack down on illegals one time and your done type dceal. Border barriers would be a priority. setting up a nation wide school system so each state is on a federal regulated learning package all schools kids learn the same ways and at same levels.I would be for a flate rate tax on working class people non business owners.I would like to see incentives given to those companies who add things like health care packages and worker stock options in thier companies. At this point this is all wishful think as we first have to get the dictatory out of office and reverse the massive damge he has inflected and try to prevent it from getting any worse then comes relection where we vote out incumbents for new qualified blood who are more middle ground whether demo or republican to even out the processes so things get done. An idependent company to oversee federal spending would be nice no more $5000 hammers, no more $8000 toliet seats. A resetting of the original checks and balance system we were founded on. I also would like it to go back to what is leagl and have the states vote and control the fedearl gov instead of the sates run by the federal government.

i've read a little bit about his son Rand Paul who has practice as doctor as well, and is running for senate in kentucky. He's another man we can count on. Same beliefs as his father.
