Whats The Best Soil To Use

I thinks its lame how alot of cities in the USA does not have stores that carry decent soil or even the items needed to make your own soil.. A friend of mine that I know online ( we were in the same gaming clan ) lives in an area with no hydro stores within an hour drive and only has the usual lowes, home depot, walmart etc.. The only soil he can find is basically miracle grow and scotts.. He cant find bat guano either and the only perlite he found was the kind w/ nutes in it.. Ordering soil online and paying high ass shipping really sucks ass. But ,he ordered 1 bag of fox Farm Happy Frog from htg and it costed over $60.00 ( for 1 f'ing bag! ) .. Now how gay is that shit?

I personally like 70% FF Ocean Forest and 30% perlite. After about 30 days I start adding some FF Grow Big and some Cal-Mag when I water (1 tsp of each per gallon of water), and will add some additional worm castings on top so when I water the good stuff flows down into the soil. Don't fert seedlings at all though --- the soil has enought nutes for the first 3 or 4 weeks.

I may try FF Happy Frog on my next grow though, because it's considerably cheaper per pound than Ocean Forest at the local Hydro store.

i like using fox farms with a bit of added perlite. i have been uising ocean forest, but happy frog sounds like it would be good too. i get mine from htgsupply.com

I despise HTG for their high shipping costs.

So if I don't actually have access to all these fancy soils (ie wal mart and home depot)

then what can I do? should I just get some supersoil brand soil from home depot and mix it up with some perilite?:leaf:

I think I might be going the same route. I might use Black Gold instead though. If my holes are in rock and don't drain well should I still add perilite?

Hello to all the professional out there... Well this is my first time growing... N my setting room I cover the wall and ceiling with black & white poly so i was wondering if i should take the carpet out or cover it with black & white poly before i start putting the pots in the room, if it not going to effect my growing?

I know not to use MG as the buffers for PH is a bitch and sucks butt. Scotts is better then that. Any of the soils are good if you feed them---if you do not want to feed use 1 bag Fox Farms and cut 1/2 bag with their humis mix with the fish pictures on it (sorry just bought from the horticulture owner of SowCal and that is what he recommends)

When dealing with water its certainly a good idea to cover the carpet. Making the floor reflective is also a good idea in general but becomes less effective the bigger the plants are. I seen that Home depot had some 4x4 trays in the garden section which are about $11. These are great if you'd like something that would catch water, but they only come in black so you would need to paint them if you wanted it reflective.

i use foxfarm ocean forest/25% pearlite and their fertilizer program, plus molasses and superthrive. i would think youre gonna at least need a veg and a bloom fert.

This (America) is a free country and everyone has his/her, own personal opinion(s). Having said that...

The personal preference for BudNut is...home made soil! Think of it this way; do you ever hear of helicopters or whatever flying over ones field dropping ferts on their plants? Ummm...NO! They let it grow naturally. Having said that as well...the goal indoors is to create a natural enviroment for our children.

There's no problem whatsoever with someone using ferts/"special soil". To each their own. It's just not BudNut's cup'o'tea. You don't have to worry about nute burn, or flushing that much, if at all.

I want to give Subcool's Super Soil a run. Sounds like it kicks ass. It's hella hot... Just add water... No fertilizing needed. Google it!

I've used foxfarm ocean forest and happy frog, good stuff, way to expensive. My last three grows I've used Scott's potting soil for containers, mixed with some miracle grow organic soil. Then I add perlite and worm castings and mycorrhizae for the root system. From four plants grown from seed and vegged six weeks I got just over fourteen ounces dry bud.

Did you add something to the soil to make it hot? Are you adding nutes? Is your water clean, no chlorine, etc? FFOF has never burned and seedling of mine in 3 years and running.
As of today FFOF is burning my 1 1/2 week old plant. Should I flush? I'm starting to freak hahaha
