I broke my friends piece, need some advice.

My friend and I were on a roadie and after we smoked he told me to empty the water from the piece. As I was doing this the piece fell out of my hand and broke into many pieces on the road. I have every intention of paying my friend back but at the moment I have no job and the money I do have is strictly for my car, insurance, and phone payment. I told my friend I would pay him back whenever I get a job (I'm actively searching) but he is insisting that I give him 200 bones at this very moment. Am I being unreasonable? I explained to him that although it's a shitty situation I have priorities and buying a bong is not one of them at the moment and he got really pissed off. I'm so low on funds I almost joined the army and backed out at the last moment.

I would never make a friend pay full price for a piece anyway. Im letting them use it so I am going to assume some of that risk too. But no your not being unreasonable hes being an asshole.

sounds like he's being a bit harsh. if i were in your situ i'd tell him i'll give him what i can when i can eg 20 this week, 10 the next, 50 a week when i get the job blah blah depending on what you can reasonably afford. or see if you can get the piece cheaper somewhere (but not less quality) and tell him you'll replace it instead of paying for it.

Tell to him he needs to calm down. I wouldn't even think of making my friends pay if they accidentally broke my piece. They just better be ready to load up the next bowl as an apology.

Buy a cheap bong now for him and tell him that you will make it right when you can. Meanwhile put a post on craigslist - you can get nice glass for much less than $200.

i can understand both view points, i'd say he should take 1/2 responsibility for it breaking and at most ask for 100. personally if u were my smoking buddy i would never think of charging you....plus, who the fuck pays 200 for a piece in this economy? thats crazy

BUT I do think you should replace his piece.

After all, I only have one nice piece and if someone broke
it I would have nothing to smoke out of, so yeah, if it were ME

I would tell you to replace it, but I wouldn't pressure you to give

dude a nice bong dont cost $200 unless its like a 2 ft roar bong with ice catcher and defuser parts. honestly i think hes tryin to get a new bong and a stash outta the situation. i would buy him a bong or something today and if he still bitches in a month+ then smoke him up untill he stops.

even if it was a $200 bong it is his responsability not to take it out on road trips where anything could happen.

Ya who the hell spends 200 on a bubbler and THEN takes it on a road trip. Sounds a little bit like your friend is trying to get one over on you.

A bubbler that you are willing to take on a road trip should not and would never be more then 80 dollars in price. If you are willing to take an expensive piece of glass on an extended stay away from home you keep it wrapped up until you get to your destination or you pull over at a wayside or a rest stop.
