Problem coming?

Alright, just got my lights and just started them under the lights; i think the plants might be too close to the light or maybe not getting enough water, but the symptoms arent totally there yet. there seems to be a little cupping and part of a dead leaf (though it may have been dead earlier)

so far i think its because of some moisture stress; but maybe theres too much light? i might have to raise the light a bit to fix it, anyone who has experienced this, your help would be extremely useful

heres some pics

heres another picture of the leaf that has bleached the most; i had a problem with underwatering earlier, but i thought it had cleared up, and im pretty sure that this is a problem with the amount of light, and im thinking i should put it farther away from the plants; just looking for another opinion

Hi,
Their are two similar characteristics that are shown. One, being heat, and two being rapid growth. Now on your first image its clearly heat. Not only do they curl up but ridge very strong. Rapid growth is similar to ridging but not very extreme.

It's a must to give your plants water when the temps are hot-they will always use more water than feed.
Your plants have the ability to have their own cooling system and you damage that when not giving it enough water. When you grow room temps are around 26 your plant leaves are at ideal 24-that is your plants still have their cooling system in effect.
Some of your leaves can become damaged as a result of your plants not being able to cool appropriately- but I dont think that is what your lower leaves are showing.. Thats another issue. What wattage are you using? And you are deff not giving to much light.. I would say you were if you had several 1000Watts 2 1/2 feed apart.. (I did this as an expirement).. Keep posting :)

i'm using a 400 watt HPS right now, was thinking about getting a MH bulb for it, since i have an electronic ballast.

should i start watering more than once every two days? i also raised the light so its about 3 or 4 feet above the plants in anticipation of future growth

OooOo.. Well 3 feet seems a little high to me :)
I cannot be honest about when you need to water next BUT I can help u find out. Some people say, stick your finger in and if it's dry about 1inch in-water.. Well, maybe lol. Lift up your pots-do they feel bottom heavy?? If they do- U can now know your plants will thrive to find water; instead, of sucking moister and root hairs dieing. What sizes of pots are u using and how much water do u use? I use 1000HPS 2 and 2 600Watts HPS. Now I have to water every second day because they drink 1 L of water by than.. Even when I go to water they are wilting because they neeed water soo damn bad... I have about 1 Cm all the way around my pots-big air gaps lol. This is bad and very good at the same time.. U wil not get their with your 400HPS because U will notice way before that point happens, when u need to water.
All in all, as soon as, your pots start to feel fairly light, give them a soak, wait a minute, check and compair a few pots. Youi want to compair so you know what feels to heavy and what feels just right. Do this so you can start to feel comfey about water retention in soil..

yeah, its a little farther up that i'd want, but this is my first grow and im not really secure on it yet; i can rig up a hanging system to lower the light more if you think its a good idea.

how much do you water each plant by volume? i haven't seen a guide yet that lists averages for plant size; mine are about a foot high or so right now. i have a 2 liter or so watering pail that i use for 5 plants every 2 days.

what distance do you recommend keeping a 400 watt light from the plants? my only form of ventilation is a box fan hanging in front of the light, so im worried about heat, but the temperature in the grow area is fine so far

The reason you dont find a chart or something relating to "how much water to feed' is because their are lots of variables. Example, pot size, lighting, medium, plant size-but that gets into a different ball game such as, plant maturity and root growth. If u have large root growth and a small pot and strong lighting u will need more water.. If you have a small pot, large root growth, and with even "fairly week lighting' u might need more water but water less often. Just so many things to consider-well thats how I see it.. Its also very simple.. U will get the hang of it-as long as the soil is not Dry- and as long as the soil is not also soakek. This is were the water runs out the bottom..
I dont use 400 but you will find mixed reviews. some say place the 400 a few feet away some say as close as possible. Its' very simple tho-place your bulb as close as you can to the plants canopy with out burning the leaves. And keep adjusting your lights up about 2 inch incraments. This helps your plants from longating and also helps even growth. Again it also helps keep your plants bushy and short.
I have used a 400MH when I frist started to grow.. I used that light to veg but it didn't meet my needs. Make sure u dont over water with a 400MH because its kinda a weak bulb. You can keep the bulb fairly close about 1 foot or even less. Jut make sure your canopy is not showing heat stress and it does not mater what anyone else is saying!! even me lol.. No heat stress, than what u are doing is right...
Remeber you are not using to much light- keep in mind to pay attention to all the other things u have to worrie about- mites etc.. Keep your feed pasive as well- I found lower NPK levels did a lot more for me.. Might help in your situation..
Just a side note, I am doing this outdoor right now and I like to keep out 5gallon grow bags wet, well the other guy likes to keep them dry. I want them to stay wet so their is no worries about drying out.. He wants them to dry out for the obvious reasons, but not thinking and causeing the plants to flash to young or setting them back by damage what roots they have. My point is- as long as the roots are not jsut pulling moister- their gonna be fine, especcially under a 400HPS, its not too strong of light!
U have the hang of it!!
