Grandma is still being a ......

Whats her deal, seriously?

So remember the last thread I wrote, well yeah?

Well, after I got some money I started to pay rent and I
have been paying rent for the last month or so.

**Told you if I had the money I would give it**

Well, she always said if I started paying rent, I could
put a lock on my door.

Well I go to Home Depot this morning and buy
a new lockable door handle. And right after I finished
putting it on, she says "whats that?" I say "a lock. you
always said if I start paying rent I could put a lock

so i bought one."

then she starts telling me I still can't have a lock on the
door even though I pay rent. I'm like wth, why am I not
responsible enough? She says it has nothing to do with

that, you think you're going to be locked in your room
all day? I said, no. Just when I'm gone. Then she told
me either take it out, or I need to find someone else
to rent from.

Wth. This woman is like Mrs. George Bush. She thinks just
because she pays the mortgage she can dictate to everyone

anything and everything she wants. Its annoying. She even
tries to tell us to do the dishes a certain way.

Why is it fair for her to change her mind like that?

She let my YOUNGER brother (15) have a lock on his door
for 4 fucking months. RENT FREE and he was getting in
expelled in school. Wtf.

But I pay rent, go to college (which none of my family has)
and take classes to advance in my field of interest

and I can't my door locked for 3 hours while I'm out?
I was so pissed I started crying. My mom talked to me

and made me feel a bit better but I'm still pissed.

Why does she want to control anything and everything
about everyone?

I thought since I pay rent all rules don't apply to me and that
I had priveleges others didn't. But I guess thats not the case

with her. Her opinion is "you pay rent, and still follow all of my rules".
And I don't like that attitude.

You're living in her house. Obviously she's doing you some kind of favor or you would of moved out by now.

Man I got a lock on both my rooms. Moms and pops don't say anything. If they did I would hand them the piece and I ain't talking about two fingers. No but honestly she is probably suspicious of you like why do you need a lock on your door are you hiding a big animal in there. I know if somone was living in my house I'd give them rules of what I see is acceptable and that's what she's doing.

i have a suggestion. put the old lock back on. then put something in the door so if its opened it will fall. like put a card in the door or something. then you leave. when you come back examine the door and show her this card was jammed in the door and it is now on the floor that means someone came in my room thats why i got a lock. tell her you are a woman (dont say adult she will flip it on you)and say you need some privacy

well duh. I don't choose to live here because I like it.
I just don't know why she has little man syndrome.

There is nothing for her to be suspicious of. Absolutely nothing.
Her thing is "no locked doors in my house".

But if that was the case, why did my younger brother have the
privelege of having a lock on his door?

I told her I am a responsible adult. She had 2 kids by my age, but I
can't have a lock on my door even though I pay rent?

Bullshit.

Even her brother (my uncle billy) agrees with me. and so does my mom.
the woman is mean. he told me this the whole time when I went to
visit him in NY. So obviously, its not me that has a problem, its her.

Well the solution is really quite simple. Move out. That's all you can do about it because it's her house. Wish there were more options but there isn't. You're in College? Is a dorm not possible? Or an on campus apartment?

why dont ya do something positive for yourself. finish up your grows and set a goal to move out. then do it. it will be hard to start back over (it usually is) but your doing it for yourself and privacy and everything else you dont have there. its kinda like my biggest problem is where i live. same problem and its my gf givin me shit but i should have walked out a long time ago but i still care and its hard i know

No on campus apartments. :?
Moving out would probably cost around the thousands,
which I don't have, or else I would.

Talk about it. Moving out requires you to have credit to apply
for an apartment, first and lasts months rent due at signing,
$150 activation fees for utilities, furniture, house appliances (vacuum, cleaning supplies, microwaves, toasters)

and I just don't have all the money it takes to move out right now.
Its expensive to move in CA.

Exactly, it is expensive as FUCK over here!

You either have to have 2 or 3 other roomates or a significant other who you live with. It's nearly impossible for a single person with even above a minimum wage job to move out on their own, unless you want to be paying $850 for a single bedroom studio or some other ridiculously crazy shit!

That's nearly every penny I earn a month... just on rent alone, for a single room place. How asshole landlords get away with that shit is way beyond me...

But your grandma sounds pretty strict. Sounds like she's playing favorites too. But I think it also sounds a little suspicious from her point of view, you need to give her legitimate reasons you would need a lock on your door. You can't just tell her because you want privacy, she obviously doesn't think that's a good excuse, in her mind you can simply close the door and you'll have privacy, but we both know it's not the same... She just wont understand that.

If you're not 18 yet, she can't legally do shit about it even if you had one (if she's your legal guardian that is). It would be illegal to kick you out.

If your above 18, then there's really nothing you can do about it. If she says no locks, improvise and put a chair up against the door or some heavy desk when you want to lock it and leave a window cracked so you can get in. Play with her words, she said "no locks", she never said anything about heavy objects blocking the entrance...lol.

well judging by that i think she's just worried about you getting knocked up. sexist, i know. but its probably the reason.

anyway if she's intolerable and you are an adult, find a roommate and split outta there.

First of all Ill probably be a priest it's not a sure thig yet. I'd probably move to Rome. But I'm not a priest yet so I still have sin in me and I can't avoid doing bad stuff sometimes because I'm not perfect like Christ. It's a long process to become whole so if I hit someone then it is sin not me.

I know. I don't know where everyone else who posted on this thread
lives, but it truly is almost impossible to live alone in CA on min. wage.
Jobs that pay above minimum wage are hard for teens to get.

We did a project on this in economics class. We found that even
making $12 an hour, you'd still be scraping up your pennies at the
end of the month. Thats CA for your ass.

I totally understand what you mean about HAVING to have a roomate
or boyfriend/girlfriend.

Its like you can't do it alone unless you have a job making
$15 an hour or higher.

She isn't worried about that.
I'm on BC, and she knows that. She tried kicking me out for that
too.

She is sexist. Its been like that with my older brother, and my older
cousin when they lived here. Boys always get more privileges than
girls around here.

I think she is. She told me to take it off or get out. She said she can get
more money by renting the room to someone else.

Gold digger.

I don't mean to stray from the topic purplekitty, but this stupidity needs to be addressed!

This is one of the best examples I've ever come across where a religious person blames sin for their own actions.

"if I hit someone then it is sin not me."

Best advice is be mature about this. Don't let emotions get the best of you. Be rational. You need her, so keep that in mind. I totally agree it's bullshit (I'm the type that thinks that people who want to do drugs, will do drugs, and people who want to have sex, will have sex).

Why do you want to lock your door anyways? It sounds like she can go in your room if she wanted to anyways.

To be honest, your situation sucks. But I would try to bring myself down (emotionally) by looking at the big picture and how many people are losing their homes because of this economy. At least you have a place to live. Remember that words and nagging means nothing in the big picture. Irritating, frustrating, yes, but you'll live. Just learn to ignore her without creating conflicts. Remember, if you chose head on war with her, she WILL win. Be smart about how you play your hand :)

And as for the asshole landlords, Yes, there are some very shitty landlords. But we also need to remember that they have to pay mortgages for the house that cost a lot more than the rent ;)

I know. My mom told me the exact same thing.
Don't let the little things get to me, just let her win.
My gramma is just the
type of person you can never like.
To be completely honest, I don't like her.
I love her, but I honestly don't like her. If she were

in a different body, she'd probably be someone I would
talk shit to.

My mom cried when she was talking to me because my gramma
is just mean. She went through it too.

Whenever I try to accomplish something she puts me down,
and never congratulates me when I do accomplish something.

I got my first car and she tried kicking me out instead of
congratulating me for saving my money to get a car.

1) Becoming a priest doesn't erase sin
2) If you hit someone it IS you who hit them

Perhaps the thread would be better off following this tangent...just kidding (maybe not).
