Ive had a 400w hps for almost 2 months now and everything has been great since i got it. I got the temp right, made my own cool tube, everything was great. Well of course when things start going good something is bound to fuck up. For some reason unknown to me for the past two days every time the a/c comes on my light goes off. It comes back on, but i know that it cant be good for it to turn on and off like every 25 minutes. I'm just waiting for my freaking house to burn down. I would hate to have to explain that one to the fire dept. and the insurance. I don't have the money for an electrician and i sure as fuck dont know how to fix it. I know most of you dont care but i just had to get this off my chest. I cant really bitch to no one else about it. I cant even smoke one right now because i have to take some stupid fucking drug test for work in a few days. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure your light is plugged into a different outlet not on the ac breaker. The power surge will destroy you ballast which sounds loike its an older magnetic ballast and not digital and the hard stops and starts are bad on the igniter. Its a simple fix just plug the light into a outlet that you know isnt on tyhe a/c breaker.

its a new light i got from htg supply. it is one of the cheaper ones though. I have no idea what breaker the ac is on.

yeah you ll definately want to get that light off the same circuit. HTG stuff is iffy at best and has been known to melt or catch fire. Should have gotten a 400 watt digital that runs mh and hps for like $120 delieverd much better and 30% more light. To find out a different circuit is easy should be labeled in your breaker box but anyways turn the ac on and then flip breakers til the ac goes off. Then you know what breaker thats on. Leave it off and then get a lamp and go plugging it into outlets until you have one that makes the lamp light. You now have a different breaker for your light plug the light into that out let and turn the ac breaker back on

so i turned off the ac breaker and tried a few outlets including the one i had the hps plugged into and they all still worked. i plugged the hps into another room and sure enough when i turned the breaker back on the light went out.

hmmm its either an issue with the ballast or you might have to much amperage on the box. That you would need a electrician for if your not comfortable messing with the breakers. Most breakers might say 10 amps on them..Is it a window ac or central unit?

its a central unit. Its been working fine for the past couple of months. I dont really have a lot of stuff running on any one outlet, or in the house for that matter. the light a couple of fans the fridge and a computer.

can you see what amps the breaker the ac is on is? Should be like a 30 amp or bigger in thgere actually it should be on its own breaker usually a double breaker

Your pulling way to many amps man. A 400 watt hps takes like 7 amps. I don't know how much your AC takes up but normal bed rooms only have like 15. I'd say plug everything out inside the room and just have the ac in one circuit and the hps in another. that should do it. either that or set it up in your laundry room which usually has 30 amps available.

yea its a 30 amp double breaker
Damn then I am lost here. One thing I don't mess with is wiring lol. Imagine mom and pops coming home to a burnt home. Then theyd find out their son was growing pot. God it would be awful. good luck though

only other possibility I can think of is if the wire guage is too small and its a hard draw right off the box and that little surge trips the lights.. Maybe try a multiplug power striop with a surge protector build in and those sometimes hold a few seconds of extra charge which would keep the power even as the ac came on..Wish i could be more help but not physically being there limits ya

noo but I thought about going for the learning part. My younger brother is an electrician and hvac guy so If its more then I can figure out I call him to do the shit that shocks you Ill do switches, run conduit chnage breaker boxes, fixtures just dont like doing full box changes or direct box connections

A separate 30 amp breaker shouldn't affect anything on a separate breaker.

You need an electrician to check your main breaker, the one that controls the whole house.

I'm not an electrician, but I did stay at a holiday inn last night :P

I don't think a bad breaker is a fire hazard, because it's in a metal breaker box.

 Here's an idea that may save your light and your grow until an inspection can be arranged

Get an uninterrupted power supply for your light. Link

Or if your grow is in a separate locked area that's far from your A/C and fuse box, just get it checked out. Tell the electrician the lights flicker when the A/C kicks on GL

bro it easy just crant everything in that one room if the a/c is on in it and it will cut the breaker off so what you want to do is get and extention cord and run it in a different room because i had that problem with mine and i found out it was connected to the hot water heater so i had to use a different outlet and now its all fine , the best thing to use is a iron because they are at 1100w by them selves, and im sure it would cut the breaker and then you would know what your room is connected with ,usually a outcast room is connected with the water heater and etc so try and cut that breaker off and see if your light is off
