Make them shorter. how?

I'm currently growing in a closet that gives me a height restriction. My question is how do I force my plants to grow short and fat so that i am not putting tiny plants into flowering anymore. It is significantly cutting into how much I am getting out of them when I harvest because I have to put them in so young so they don't max out their height limit right away.

Topping is much easier for a beginner. You can do it over and over. The technique is simple but if you search for threads you can find pics on exactly where to cut - better than me telling you.

yep, LST(low stress training) work great, combained with topping have done them both and had a wider, bushier plant.Topp first, then 2-3 weeks after that start the lst

Lst, supercropping, topping and/or scrogging are great techniques for growers with limited vertical space they also sell things like bushmaster which helps reducing stretch by stacking nodes much closer together.

i would say combine topping wit lst youll get a fat plant,,,not a tall plant and a increas in collie sites

go 24/0 from seedling(hps) and the plants will grow rapidly bushy and compact.
when you go 18/6 the plants will stretch during the dark as they are searching for the light.
i do 2 weeks at 24/0 and grow low bushy trees and then switch to 18/6 for another 2 weeks to get some height/stretch on them before starting my 12/12.
and as for the source of the info i have tried and tested it may times(personall experiences)
works a treat.

I have been using LST as well, and have been running a 24/0 schedule and have noticed the much stouter bush growth that I was looking for. I haven't toyed much with topping but I hear it is also an excellent way to keep em short.

I've learned alot from your posts, so a question (for your opinion), if I may. I have severly beaten my little ones, PH problems that can't be resolved as my new ph testor isn't here yet, nuted them too early, burned them. Under LED panels, they looked ok, but a little stretched, so I asked around about using my HPS for veg, and used it... got heat stress and possibly burned from the light which slipped on it's yo-yo's to be too low to the plants. They look horrible, but they have new growth, that is kinda green, a good sign.. that's the background, now the question..

should I leave the 24 cycle to keep them growing, or drop to 18/6 to let them repair? There are others out here too and I respect other's opinions, but I figure if I have Luda's attention, I may as well ask.

if you want them short and bushy with minimum stretch keep them on 24/0 (hps).
amazingly fast growth results.
and just be carefull with the lamp height using hps.
further away is safer than too close.
its a balancing act you will get used to quickly.

well i do the same thing but switching to 20/4 before and then 18/6.its better than 18/6 from the beginin you keep your plants bushier for sure.
