newest growth is yellow near stem - auto lemon skunk

I'm hoping someone can confirm my diagnosis and suggest where to go from here. My young Automatic Lemon Skunks show yellow on the youngest growth--it is most evident nearest to the stem on the youngest leaves. The veins maintain a green color.

Background: bubbleponics grow in an 8-10 gallon reservoir under an aerogarden hood w/ side CFLs. They are around two weeks old, and PH has been steady (with daily monitoring/adjustments.) The oldest plants show the most yellow, and this is my first auto lemon skunk grow.

Last weekend I had noticed a light leak, corrected it, and added two teaspoons of Thrive Alive B-1 as two of the roots looked a bit brown(yes, added two teaspoons total to six gallons of water and PH adjusted it.) The other day I noticed the yellow on the leaves. The roots look good now (light leak fixed, the roots seemed to have liked the thrive alive.)

Earlier today I decided to change the reservoir (PH set to 5.9) and have only added one teaspoon of epson salts. I think I have a Magnesium deficiency *or* the young lemons didn't like the Thrive Alive. Oddly, the youngest plants have the most green while the older plants show the most yellow.

I'm happy to add more epson, but am a bit confused. If the plants didn't like the Thrive Alive, I'd imagine the youngest plants would show the worst reaction. Also, if this created some type of nutrient lockout, I'd also expect the younger plants to struggle more. This is not the case. Any input is appreciated. For now I will watch how they adjust to the new liquids.

its SUPPOSED to look like that, thats what new growth looks like. heres my plant..familiar?
Oh, you have got to be kidding me. On your plant, the new growth is as yellow as mine while the veins around it are dark green?

Just for the record, I looked at every Auto Lemon Skunk thread I could find last night and didn't spot this trait mentioned. Also, I failed to notice this coloring on the first set of leaves.

Well, good news. After I went with new liquids and just a pinch (one 1/2 - one 5/8 tsp epson salt in the entire 6 gallon resv), the plants look much better today. Here is the same plant that was in the first photo I posted. Slightly different angle, but the yellow has been crowded out by the return of green!

I still don't know what the original issue was (either the Thrive alive in young plants locked out the Magnesium *or* they didn't like the Thrive alive) but things are looking better.

Thanks to all that posted while I was busy doubting myself and trying to figure out what was wrong.

whats a light leak ? and does that even matter for auto-strains? if so, that explains all my probs
Roots generally don't like light--it can turn them brown, allow algae to grow on them, and eventually cause root rot which will kill the plant when it can no longer get nutrients to supply the plant.

In hydro grows, it is best to keep the plant lights from getting into the reservoir where they can reach the roots. If you have a cheap reservoir bin (hold it up to a light and you can see light come through) then it's best to either wrap it in mylar, paint it, etc to keep the roots safe from light. In my case, I put a net pot in an empty hole and forgot to fill it with hydroton, so some light was getting into the resv for a couple of days. I was just rushing one night and missed it.

If you catch it early enough, you can keep the plants alive. I have had good luck repairing early root issues with Thrive Alive B-1, but there are other products that others here use. Also, this is where regular water changes keep your roots safe as well as you'll have less of a chance of algae growing.

It always cracks me up when someone has a clear problem with their plant, and people say its just normal.

Looks like your plant is showing the early stages of a problem, which i would suspect is due to your temps/airflow. Look at that meter it says 83 with a peak of 92. That is bad for your plants.

hello. Were they seriously two weeks old? My plants are exactly 8 days old and look like this and are greener. But I'm using a proper compost, not hydro-bubble-something. Anyway, auto lemon skunk grows so rapidly i cannot believe it, and it seems like it already started producing some flowers, i was shocked when i saw them this morning appearing on a plant which is just 8 days old, but it is real man!
