Check these babies out Growing with CFI's

I started a few weeks back with the weakest ass setup ever but with a little help from a few guys I have been able to get these puppies going really well (at least in my opinion). Figured I'd post a few pics. I've got them planted in MG moisture control soil. Seems to be working well I have fan on them 24 hours a day and the light at 18/6. Right now I have 14 CFI bulbs (10x 100w and 4 x 60w) seem to be growing pretty well. I have got the leaves a little to close to the ligths a few times causing a burnt leaf or two......any thoughts please feel free to let me know.

do you have light leaks from those vents? are you planning to flower there too? if so, maybe connect ducts and try and black out as much as you can. if you aren't planning on flowering there, than don't worry about it.

and.. it's CFL not CFI... just thought that may help when looking stuff up.

I am planning on flowering in there too.....hummm that will take some work to connect ducts to that setup I was thinking of taking a black breathable cloth and puttting it over the vents during the 12/12 schedule maybe like a black cotton or cheesecloth. What you think?

nothing you can see light through. so like a black cheesecloth, no.. there would be a substancial light leak and could cause your plants to go hermie....or not flower properly. It has to be pretty much light proof.. so like the flexible ducts... i mean dryer vent stuff ($5 at the hardware store) and like tape it around the vent so that the vent actually works... but the vent can hang down the wall and no light will disturb the dark cycle.. from what I hear you can get away with like 5-10minutes of what would equate to moonlight and that's it... so it's pretty important from what I understand.

Do you know if they are female plants or are you going to have to find out?
I would get a small fan and let it blow across the plants. Also later on you are going to need a way to exchange the air inside for fresh air. A cheap bathroom fan can be used and found almost at any hardware store. Are the plants getting any nutrients. I would spray them down with a water bottle every now and then. Any idea on what the temperature is in your grow. There are hvac vent adapters that you can attach to those vents then to a duct. Nice plants.

I'm not sure the sex of the plants yet......I do have a small fan in there blowing on the plants coming in right next to the "in" vent and another blowing out of the "out" vent. The temp inside of there is about 75 ish with the a/c running in the room. You said to spray the plant??? I have heard not to get the leaves wet can anyone shed any light on this??? I will have to do something about the vents before flower I like the dryer vent idea I'll have to give it a try don't want any hermi's

you can get your leaves wet, just be careful not to get nuted water on the leaves as it will burn the leaf. When you hear people talk about folier feeding - that's what you are doing is misting the leaves.

I would still get at least a small exhaust fan for air exchange too.. you can put that anywhere inside the room and attach it to the dryer vents and that should in effect create a little negitive pressure and draw fresh air in through the other vent. Exhaust using the vent that is the highest. (heat rises so the higher the vent, you are also effectively helping cool your room). You want to keep the vent hose as short as possible, but you also have the option of making it as long as the vent hose is. so just make sure if you use a bathroom exhaust fan you get some duct tape and cover the holes in the fan box (helps make it more efficient as it can push the air through the hose and not lose presure pushing it back through the holes of the box. Kinda like trying to carry water with a bucket with a hole in it..it will carry water, but not as much as you could without the holes.
Also consider a charcole filter for flowering too..if you need to control odor, as weed is stinky!!! If you decide that's an important add to your set up, you will want a stronger fan, so think about that before you just go spend $30 on a cheap bathroom fan.... may be worth the extra $ to get a fan that will work with that filter too.

Sounds good I didn't realize i could get the leaves wet, right now I have a intake fan but nothing pushing the "dead" air out but do have a exhaust vent on the top, I will try to pick up some fan action from Wally world in the next few days I have noticed a rise in the temp in the unit since I added 6 additional bulbs, but with the A/C in the room the unit stays at about 75 degrees. I'm not worried about odor control as I live in a multi unit building that is owned by my family and I have a relative living on the other side of me. (no I don't live with my mom ) Right now I have a fairly decent fan blowing on the plants from the intake vent. This has really been a good learning experience for me, I had started with 4 plants in a cardboard box lined with foil and a single 100w bulb, but soon enough people were telling me that I was crazy and an idiot so I did some reasearch and was befriended by a few guys who saw that I really wanted to make this work as for now I would say things are going really well for me. I'm sure others would disagree but WTF I don't care.


Any other comments or suggestions anything I could do diffrent? Other than changing my light type....

I think its looking pretty good. From one newb to another! I started out same as you but these guys here on RIU are great, they really do want to help us and I appreciate them. I just wish I had found you guys before my plants were over a foot tall!! But somehow I managed to keep them healthy and they didnt stretch due to my ignorance so I am very excited!! This is day 5 of my 12/12 lighting and I actually spotted preflowers on my own!! lol a total newb thing to cheer, I know, but I'll take small victories the same as a big one! So good luck, keep posting, keep reading, and keep showing off those babies we love to see them!

D Thanks so much for the props. And your right the guys on here are pretty good bunch I have learned a lot from them. At one point I wondered if I should just give up but one guy said that would be a waste and keep it up, things started heading in a better direction and for now I'm pretty happy! Thanks again
