uhm actualy when they stretch like that it kinda means its looking for the light..
what kind of lights are you using now?..how many? it seems they lack light tho..

Well he said in the pics the lights were to high, but You should be ok w/ you 1000w as long as you can provide suffcient air movment and siffiecent distance from the plants so you dont burn em up. Should hep stop the streching.

Here is what we have so far. I think the first thing you might say is the light is too high. I corrected that last night, however I think I still need more light than what I have. Would it be ok at this stage to switch to my 1000w HPS?
It looks like you are using led's. I see a lot of red light from the phot which causes stretching. If you move your lights closer it will help prevent stretching. They look a little young for 1000w hps. Try moving your led's closer and see what happens.

LED's should be within 6" at least. They don't get very hot at all.

Also, you can use that 1000 HPS, just keep it 18"-24" away depending on your setup. If you have a fan blowing across the tops then 18" will be fine.

The hps might be to much for them , - plants at this stage use minuscule amounts of light.

Be careful :)

yes i am using a small ufo i have it around 10" from the plants to give as much light to cover 20 plants basically 2ft x 2ft, but the outside plant are leaning in towards the light, so I know I need more light. If i put the HPS at 18-20 inches would they stretch even more or do you think that will give them enough light for them to grow more?

oops didnt read the last comment about miniscule amount of light...Question would it be better to add a few flourecents?

I use the good old 40 watt fluro, no experience in the lighting you are using.

, from my reading the length of time the light is on also can factor in the stretch.

rotate them so they get equality, when you transplant you can sink them deeper to compensate for long stem.

It's is a bitch to see them fall over from elongation.

Is a 1000w hps more powerful than the sun? :?
People often use this argument. The sun is approximately 96 million miles from the earth and you can't move it closer. A 1000w hps can overwhelm a small seedling if placed too close. Perhaps it's the heat but either way you should be careful with large hid's and small plants IMO.

well this is why i ask you dudes, as i dont have the time or the money to mess this up. I am thinking i need to go ahead and crank up the hps, im going to set it at 24 inches and run a ocilating fan over the little ladies and see how that works..i will keep everyone up to date.

just FYI i started with 20 feminized WW,
started germinating Monday the 27th
planted 10 Wednesday night
planted 7 more thursday
and put 3 in hydro on Friday
1 out of 3 in hydro has sprouted
and 13 out of 17 in dirt.
today is day 8

I've found it helps to gradually introduce your plant(s) to hps, starting maybe with rooted clones @8 hrs of 3 foot away, then 9, or 30" . . . you get the idea? *clones under fluros/mh at all other times, or expect stretch.

I've been able to get mine (600) 8"-9" away with just a canopy fan and only a few leaf tips might burn just a tad. No biggie.

Do n ot use a 1000 watt hps light on these little plants anyone who would suggest that is not a good grower as thats a basic basic thing. The led you have is the wrong color for starting these plkants so get rid of that and can add that to your flower room later. Get a simple shop light for like $15 at wal mart. Use it with bulbs more in the blue spectrum as it will promote less stretch and healthier less stressed young. If you even attempted to put any HID light on these young plants you would stress and shock them with the ultraviolet ray bombardment they would get. You also have just an hps light so color spectrum is still wrong. Get the simple florescent light keep it about 3 inches from tops max. better yet get a 4 T8 light from like homedept for about $50 and you can cover all your plkants easily but do not use the hps light and the led can be as close as it can be latere leds can touch tops no need for space as with leds every inch away you loose tons of output as they do not penetrate well at all

ok...that sounds good to me..im off to home depot.., any other suggestions Mr. Ganga? Do you think the other 5 plants should have been out by now, and if they arent should i assume they wont?

Is a 1000w hps more powerful than the sun? :?
What kind of question is that?

Obviously , a 1000w HPS light is more capable than daylight when the sun is 150 million kilometers away... duhhh <.<

The sun might have a broader spectrum overall but its maximum potential lux is about 100k at its distance i believe ( not sure if i calculated correctly though ;D )

Filter through invisible humidity and clouds , - all the way through our atmosphere to the ground it normally emits around 5-10k

The hps can be placed in a cool tube and put as close as possible , - a 1000watter will be capable of 120k easily.

Good education?

----

notorious1 , - as others stated above - a cooler spectrum ( cfl maybe? ) would be more efficient at this stage.

Don't unleash that monster 1000w until its already grown up.

On the surface of the Earth, the average solar illumination varies between 32,000 and 100,000 lumens per square meter, or lux.
After reading the above post, I did some research and the very first listing claimed that the sun is brighter than all the light bulbs on the earth, combined.
Where's BigBudBalls when we need his lighting expertise? LOL!

doesnt really have to get to technical with which is brighter its justa the simple fact that much direct intensity of uv and heat strees the young plants and is the wrong color spectrum so that alone is enough why not to put a 1000 watter hps on new plants besides it being a waste and just stupid lol

how about estimated time from this stage to harvest. aprox, i know there are alot of factors in this question, just best guess is what i am looking for,..2 months 4 months , christmas.etc
