Hey again Roseman,

Just wanted to update you guys. I had 4 out of 5 AK48 from Nirvana germinate. I planted the in starter cubes for a day to let them develop a bit more, then I put them in 4 in cubes that had already been running in the system which was running for 2 days at 6.5ph consistantly and 69def F. No nutes, but I did add a drop of superthrive to the last of 4 gal. I planted them at 4am Sun. morning and they havent sprouted yet, but I figured it would take a few days to do so.

Back that ph off a bit to about 6.0 to have them take in more Nitrogen but that is not that important just yet. Just change everything very slowly at this point. They're just babies! The Superthrive is probably a good idea at that level. Won't hurt and may help kind of thing. Full spead ahead and sometimes it takes a week. When the first one or two pop leaves hit it with a bit of light from a distance.

As always I appreciate your help backed it down to 6.3..I'll give it another day or two before I back it down again. Haven't introduced any Nitrogen yet. I'll be adding 1/4 strengh grow big per gallon ( do you think I should add1/4 strenght big bloom as suggested by FF regimine? ) when I see the first nodes. I'll also be using cal mag as a supplement.

No nutes at all until you see the second set of true leaves (don't count the little roundish one's you'll see first). I know nothing on FF. Does the label say to use a bit of bloom for seedlings? I use GH and since it's 3 part I go 1/4,1/4,1/4 tsp (1.25 ml per gallon) and GMB. Start the cal-mag at 1/4 strength also.

no I'm not using any nutes untill then 1/4 on the call-mag as well.

Here's the feeding schedule that FF suggests. Which I don't intend to follow as the suggest, yes I will be taking it very easy on the girls.

Looks like a tomato feeding schedule to me. Maybe tuned to ebb and flow since they talk about putting in a clearing solution and running for two cycles. We don't need no stinkin' cycles! LOL!

Damn, maybe I need to get an easier to use nutrient system. I hear alot about GH and Advanced Nutrients being fairly easy to use. I've grown in soil with FF successfully but maybe I need to make a switch.

I can only speak for GH. Been using it three grows and they are my best by far. Kind of natural to get better with practice but this is my base.

I like that they have a hard water micro because I have 400ppm tap water. I add cal-mag, cannazyme ( root protection), super thrive and the Liquid Karma ( sugar and enzymes) in flower only. Real mad scientist stuff if you like that kind of thing and I do. Want a little more veg then add a bit of extra grow. Want to plump the buds - increase the bloom and max out the recommended dose of Liquid Karma. Every grower will find out what works for them along with the additives that work. If your new and can afford it I go exploring! If something doesn't work as expected I'd just throw it in my tomato garden. By the way, first time using GH nutes on the tomatoes with the same dose I would use for our plants on a once every 10 days schedule and my tomoatoes are the envy of the neighborhood. Been shitty weather here for tomatoes and I have lots and they have a few. The flowers get the used res water and the tomatoes get a custom batch. LOL!

Roseman - How do you keep the roots from being sucked up by the water pump?

The roots will naturely gravitate to the pump intake. How are you keeping the roots away? Do you trim the roots?

If the roots head toward the pump there are pump bags you can buy but a foot off a pantyhose will work also.

ALL sounds good to me. I like to average 5.9 pH, and spike up and down between 5.6 and 6.6.

Newest thing on the Hydro scene is FILTER bags. Small draw string Filter Bags, made from window screen, and you put your water pump in it, to keep if from sucking in dead roots, live roots and trash.

Normally, I unplug my pump at about the 4th week of VEG, because the roots are stopping up the feeder tubes and getting intot he pump. Sometimes I run my pump all the way until the 2nd week of Flowering, when I remove the males. Sometimes, I remove the feeder tubes and hub at 4th week of VEG, because it is getting stopped up.
I always leave the water pump in til Harvest, I use it to drain the tank. AND I plug it up for a while to circulate the water and cool it.

ok so i read this thread yesterday night and thought "i should try it that"so today i got off work early and went to work on building this bubbleponics i just got some questions if you can shoot me link or answer them that would be great.

like when should i start fox farm vegnutes right now im just using thrive alive b1 1-1

right now i have the water pump 30mins on/off is that to much or underwatering?

Don't know anything about the ff nutes but the rule we use is no nutes before two sets of edged leaves. Then 1/4 dose for the first week or so for sure and then you watch how the plant likes the nutes and adjust as needed. You're close but not quite yet. Nice strong seedlings you have there! We keep our pump on 24/7 the whole grow. Kind of amazed with your success using 30 on - 30 off. At this point that leaves it to you to decide on the pump timing. I don't argue with success! LOL!

Fungus Gnat larvae, and Root Aphids in hydroton

In a DWC grow using hydroton it is
inevitable to get one or both of these root crunchers. Your plant will get stressed, suffer, and may die. At the least you will get decreased yield. Realize that hydroton is a bug magnet, many places to lay eggs and the buggers like roaming around the top of the hydroton.

What do you folks use to alleviate an infestation and then keep them away.
Or, do you add something to the reservoir that will keep them away from day one and, what ever it is that is used, does not harm the plant?

Hey just a reply to the filter bags for the pumps, fish stores sell bags that most pumps fit in, nice small mesh, done that for years and they also can be use to hold other media if needed. Petsmart had them last I knew, they typically hold carbon, peat, ceramic, and what ever else you can think of.
