water level in 5 gal bucket

Should I have any water in the bucket when the plant is this young?

I've just been keeping the rockwool moist but should I be doing it differently?

When can I tell when to fill it & where to fill it to?

IF you do not have a feeder tube or DRIP system, keep the water churning with Air Stones and a decent air pump, and keep the bottom of the cup in the water until the roots exit the bottom of the cup. Then make an air pocket, one to two inches, in between the top of the water and the bottom of the cup.

gotta make sure that rockwool doesn't dry out. i don't put seedlings into buckets until seedlings have roots coming out of rockwool cubes. i just spread some hydroton on a tray and add some water and sit the cubes on top until rooted.

Im a noob to but if you had a feeder tube next to the rockwool (like in Rosemans design), that would work. That is what I am doing right now and it is working just fine.

You will have to get a pump with a small hose to feed through the net pot and through the hydroton.

I had to put my feeder tube underneath the rockwool cause it was getting the rockwool too wet.

But mine has been running for a week on a seedling like yours and it's been doing fine.

Give it a shot.

Thanks flogger. and if not that, I have to do something tho right? or could the roots grow to like 8 inches with just keeping the rockwool moist?

Well withte feeder tube underneath I have found that it keeps the rockwool moist enough. I am hoping the roots will go after the water, and it seems so far to be working.

The way mine is set up I don't even have to worry about the rockwool remaining moist casue the feeder tube does it for me.

I just check the ph and my water temp.

Anyway, I learn as I go, as you will too.

if you're growing weed, you're definitely not stupid! i'm sure it will work. you just won't be able to see the progress. same thing happens to me once i get my cubes rooted and i transfer into the net pots. i'll be in limbo for 1-2 weeks not really knowing how the roots are growing until i see them emerging from the bottom of the net pots. that is always a happy day for me!!
