how many fluorescent lights would compare to a 1000w pro set up? and would the energy cost be the same? and what about the set up cost would it be cheaper for the flurescent lighting?

They are not even in the same universe. Go for the 1000 watter. What do you do when you break one of your 24 42 watt cfl's over your grow, and you just fertilized your girls with mercury? The 1000w will cover 4 x 4 and you will not be dissapointed. Although two 600's with 95,000 lumen bulbs would be even better.

You're smoking crack. 1kw CFL > 1kw HID

I have been kicking around an idea that I am wanting to attempt with T-5's. The problem with floro's is airy low yield buds. The smoke is still great just very low yielding. But my idea is to grow a bunch of tiny plants. Then the light doesn't have to penetrate but like 6 inches. It isn't practical with clones which would be my first choice, because that would mean keeping too many mothers to make it worth it. So I am thinking I could grow like 100 in plastic cups straight to 12/12 from seed under T-5's. Anyone done something like this? 100 x 5 to 10 grams = 500 to 1000 grams.

The hps setup will be cheaper, produce more, be more efficient, less setup, less maintenance, less hassle. There is no magical watt conversion, 1watt of hps is the same as 1watt of floro.

airy buds? not necessarily - depends on strain that works well with your lighting choice
here's some nl#5 bud that was grown with cfl's, airy they are not

This assumes that 1 watt of HPS contains the exact same wavelength of red light that 1 watt of CFL contains. It is my opinion that CFLs do not contain the same wavelength of red light that an HPS does. Even if the CFL states "day light spectrum" I still do not trust it. They achieve "day light spectrum" with a thin chemical coating on the inside of the bulb. We do not even know what that coating is composed of.

Not putting you down, or trying to discredit you but CFL's are not in the same league as HPS lamps. Thus. you could not say that 1 watt of CFL is = to 1 watt of HPS.

i was actually referring to the power consumption aspect of it, so no worries. As far as spectrum goes im pretty sure the cfls actually have a much more accurate sprectrum than the hps does, but the hps has the lumens to make up for it.

So by me saying they are not in the same universe I am now a crackhead. They do not equal each other or are even near each other in growing. A watt is a watt, but the color spectrum and light penetration are completly different. I have tried both, and HPS far exceeds when it comes to growing. CFL's are good for small spaces and lower heat, but if you are talking about 1000 watts it is a no brainer. I would like to add that I have a friend that just set up a 40k grow and do you think that he has hundreds of cfl's hanging from the fucking ceiling? No he has 40 1000 watter's. I accept your appology in advance, but you were out of line with your comment.

ok quick math...

1000W of cfl we will use 42W bulbs...1000 divided by 42 = 23.8 so say 24.... 42W cfl have 2800 lumen... so 2800 X 24=67200 lumem.....

1000w HPS =130000 to 145000 lumen depends on your bulb..

in conclusion 67200 vs 130000...what do you thing will grow the most bud???

Thanks for your quick math:clap:, I don't think many of us potheads could have handled that ;) Not "quickly" anyway.

What about HO Flo like the T5? 5k lumen ea thats 120,000 vs 130,000 but how much of that is usable? i know you can put a T5 within Inches and have no problems.

Of course the t5 actually uses 54w not 42 so would end up with 95,000 for the same w.

Oh yeah i also have broke 1 and they are thicker than i Originally thought

I grow my whole veg with t12 four foot with 4 tubes and I get around 40,000 lumens and I grow one plant at a time. I get a 1/2 pound on a 3 foot plant but I flower with a 400watt HPS sonic tube.

well if you take 54w HO tubes..to get 1000w takes 18.5... 19 x 5000 (lumen of a 54w ho.tube) = 95000 close but still think I would take the 130000 to 145000 from the 1000w HPS..

not to be a ass or anything... but I have searched 6 bulb company's and the highest T12 48" bulbs I can find is 4050 lumen X 4 = 16200

You guys clearly have no experience growing with floros. Reality is in my sig.
