Helicopters finding your outdoor grow

I saw a thread about helicopters finding your Indoor grow, but my question is about helicopters finding your outdoor grow.

How exactly does it work? Do they just fly around and look for open area's with beaten paths? Do they only look during harvest season?

I don't know how true this is but I was told that they use infrared during flowering season because Marijuana plants are are flourishing while most plants are dying. And because there flourishing they produce more heat then all the other plants which are dying during the late fall months, so a field would stand out with infrared.

Is there any truth to that? Does anyone know how its really done?

I don't think it is true about using FLIR to find plants outdoor but yes they usually fly around looking for plants (usually large plots) right around harvest. If you only have a few plants though there is almost no chance of finding them.

That is incorrect...the way they can easily find outdoor grows is because marijuana reflects a very specific electromagnetic spectrum, and there are cameras designed to detect the specific wavelength that marijuana gives off. There's a thread about it somewhere on this site.

This is what I have heard...

They do in fact use helo's to look for gorilla grow operations in most states, but the truth is that they have to allocate their resources carefully due to budget constraints. This is even true when the economy is not a negative factor. What they spend their greatest effort on, at least here in Cali, is the large commercial op's on public land. These operations have plants that sometimes number in the 10's of thousands per grow operation.

Regarding current budget issues, I have a neighbor who is a Docent at a local state park. She was telling me a story just last week about growers in the state park, but the park service having trouble getting enough resources to get em out... Too funny if true...

As for the 10 fat girls? Unless they are in perfect rows, in a clearing, in the middle of a low valley. You get the picture, way tough to see. Heck, I only have a couple of plants but even with their distinctive look this time of year, they cannot hardly be noticed from just up the hill, so no way from the air.

So true. The thing people don't realize is that it costs several hundred to several thousand dollars an hour to operate a helicopter. The ends has to justify the means. Now if they happen to spot these 10 ladies while looking for the mother lode then you are screwed but the chances that will happen is very low.

Don't believe everything you read. If there is such a thing I've never heard of it.

How great is it to live where I am. Much less of an effect as far as the recession goes, AND pot is as close to legal as anything else. (a 5/5 tolerance is how it's called)

Anyways, unless you have your plants alligned in a nice pattern, there's usually little chance of finding it, unless they inspect EVERY backyard, or every shrubbery.

Just plant as if it were natural, and it'll grow fine and be more camouflaged that way.
