I'd say the sooner the better, good air circulation is also important to help the plant in respiration. Just make sure your not sending your babies straight into hurricane force winds. Its best to have a Oscillating fan that bends the the leaves and main stalk slightly each oscillation.

That should be fine to strengthen them.
