So i am thinking of getting a 600watt HPS for my next grow. The only thing is i dont have a completely sealed grow room. Basically it is in the corner of my basement and i have 2 plastic shelf as the other 2 walls. For this grow i want to cover the area in mylar so when it is shut it is completly closed, but there will be a good 1ft of space between the top of the shelfs and the celing. So you guys think heat would be an issue? Ill try to post a pic to let you know what i kinda looks like.

This is the room i got to work with do you think i will need to vent or not?

Basements are inherently colder than elsewhere in the house so I would say heat wont be an issue, what is your ambient temp without lights, ballast etc.?

I have never used HPS just CFL's...Normal temp in the basement right now is about 65-70degrees. It is a giant basement. Im in ohio so winter is coming an idk how much the heat will drop.

i still dont think heat will be an issue in a large basement with a grow space thats not sealed, I understand you worries about summer and cant comment as I have no idea how hot it gets. I always think of a basement as being underground also which is cooler.

I will not be an issue. The only issue i see is sealing it up to where no light will penetrate and mess up your growth cycle. Personally i would put up 2 walls to make a room. the you will be able to vent out the warm air and use CO2 to increase your yeilds. I see beauty in that basement

Im on top of that lol im gonna pick a corner and build 2 walls to make a small room( lets say 5x5 or 6x6. I got an ac already so ill make a wood frame for that in the wall just encase it is 2 hot.

why not buy panda film its had a white side and a black side to it.......use the panda film to make walls like hang it down use some duct tape and you will be sealed in.....u can have one section loose so u can roll it up and down to get in and check the ladies.....also i would mount a few fans in there to circulate air......then u can buy a cheap exuast fan put it on a timmer...actually get 2 one to take out the stagnant air and the other to bring in new air..... and it really wont cost u alot of money.....

in an area that large heat wont be a prominent issue. there is lots of space/ air to heat up. however. you do need some better ventilation or you risk mold and stagnation problems. do you have any windows in there/ vents? with that space i would do a couple winter grows. get couple grand, then buy a good inline fan and expand the whole basement! good luck!

I have a central air unit for my hole house. The system is in the basement. Is it possible to run a line from the central air system as inline and outline vents for the basement?

there are a number of ways... just tap into one of the ducts and run it up to your grow room
Ya i was thinking of just splicing into the one that distributes the air so my room is always getting new air. Then it can just vent its self in the basement.
