LED users or veterans out there?

Well, my second thread on here thus far, and looking for advice from any experienced/seasoned/successful LED growers.
Currently, I am doing my first real grow using nice clones (6) and a grow ufo. Initially, I hung the light about a foot or more from the tops of the plants and they didn't seem too happy, but then again it was also a lot hotter a month ago. Then, I lowered the light to about 3 inches from the top of my tallest plant and then all of a sudden they started doing really well. They look as happy as can be and are putting on some nice looking girth. With everything aside, they still don't grow as fast as I'd like them to. Today, I bought two led panels that are just 15 watts to help supplement the main source. What I do like about LED is that you can drowned the shit out of them with light and no heat will not be an issue. It's almost like the more the better. Anyone out there know more to get optimum results? I'm going to try to add some CFLs , but I don't know if it will over power the main light source. Other than switching to HPS, any suggestions? :) So far I like the LED mainly because I'm growing in my closet and space and temp. is an issue. For my second grow, I will most likely at least try an HPS (400w for a closet space?) and compare results. Ultimately, I may just go full time HPS, but I'm digging this experiement. :fire:
I may take some pics, but by description, I must say my plants are doing well, the leaves are like shooting out and up towards the light and they seem happy. I also lined the insid tops of the pots with foil to get some reflection under the leaves, I think that may of helped a lot too. Anyways, shoot away. Let's share :weed:

im finishing up my first grow with cfls and was gonna upgrade my lights and was wondering about LED's, I didn't want to deal with the heat of a hps
what watt is your UFO?, they say the 90w is comparable to a 400w hps.

i'd love to see some pics

yoyo.. i might be able to lend you some advice on your experiment. I tried the 400w / 90w Ufo Led combo. And it was generating some crazy frostyness over a few Wwidows i had rollin. but I didnt get to crop it. damnit....bongsmilie Yes, Im a freedom Fighter now and a MMJ Activist and wish the goverment could stop arresting no-violent crime offenders and decriminilize MJ in all states, especially Washington state! Follow the only city in America that won't arrest on the street for possesing up to an once, Denver, Colorado. An MMJ paradise, I heard. Although Cali seems to be the frontrunners in legalization and are taxing MMj in like thirty jurisdictions. Oaklands one of them. So, I heard the hell with amsterdam. Head to Cali? have a real good time, and you won't be venturing outside the homeland.

:peace: that was an interesting first post on yo thread...lol:blsmoke:

get a black dog bd 360 or better bro. you will see some major differences. I use a bd700. works great. rock hard nugs all the way to the bottom, major resin production. its pricey but with a lifetime warranty, what the heck?

also the growled lights are crap. run on less than 1 watt of power, no penetration.

I've done several LED grows and I love them, for the same reasons you said - no heat, you can put the lights right on top of the plants and there is almost no energy usage. From my experience I can tell you that the best method is a hybrid where you use LED for vegging and HID for flowering. Don't let anyone tell you that LED's are as good as HID for flowering; it just ain't so.

I too am using LED. I have two panels over the top of two plants , they are doing really well and only +2 degrees hotter then ambient temp. I run them about "7 from the canopy , and now that they are big enough I have just tied down the tops which has let me lower the lights further to give the lower stems light. Buds all over the place:)

Cool mate! Literally! lol, the only thing ive noticed whilst testing is if you have them too low at seedling stage they can stunt the growth, plus when budding they can bleach white if too close, doesn't affect the smoke tho. call it Snow Bud lol
