I think a lot of these car speeds are very exaggerated. Most car tachometers aren't very accurate for one and two most car's don't have the proper gearing to go over 110-120 real world speed (remember there is wind resistance, friction, and various other mechanical obstacles to deal with). Most cars truly cap out at around 100-110 max. Hell my old six speed manual tranny car only really hit around 110 even though the tach said something stupid like 125 or 135.
I've only been in a few cars that actually went well over 115... those would be a couple of modified benzes and BMWS, a few american muscle cars (with new rear ends and trannys) and a porsche (I was either in a GT2 or a older GT3).
