The Ignore Function -- USE IT

The fastest way to get rid of an attention seeking internet troll is to ignore him. This thread is a quick "how to" on putting someone on ignore.

First, you go to the person's profile, either by clicking their AV in a post, or clicking their user name and selecting Visit Profile.

Once on the person's profile, you can easily put them on ignore by clicking HERE. The User Lists button is right under the person's username, and clicking it opens up a drop down menu like this:

Note that it says "remove from ignore list" instead of "add to ignore list" because I already have this particular shining example of internet trolling on my ignore list

Putting the troll on ignore gets rid of him faster, and makes your stay here at RIU more pleasant while he IS around.

If you choose not to ignore him, I would ask that you please NOT quote him. Because when you quote him, his post comes up in YOUR post, because I don't have YOU on ignore. Also, when the mods come and clean up after him, it makes it more difficult for them to take out the trash if bits and pieces of it are saved in other member's posts.

EDIT: I figured that since I started it, I might as well be thorough.

Another way to put someone on ignore is to click edit your ignore list from your My Rollitup page.

Then you will get this screen where you type in the person's user name. As long as you know how the user name begins, the system will start to give suggestions

Putting someone on ignore also makes it so they can't PM you

good lesson, and thanks, i didnt know we could do that, but its just a temporary solution to a problem. what happens when he comes back 10 mins later fresh from being banned with a new name and ip address? you just block him again and the cycle continues.

I put him on ignore because I know it's the same guy, so I figured he'd start talking shit about me. And I knew if I read it, I'd be more tempted to respond to him, and thus give him what he wants.

So I nip it in the bud and ignore him. And yeah, if he comes back, I'll have to add the new name to my ignore list. Takes me all of 10 seconds

Figure if everyone put him on ignore, and NO ONE responded to him, he'd give up and go away. Responding to him fuels the fire and gives him something to post back to.

The hardest argument to refute is silence.

That's totally cool too, I know sometimes I've enjoyed fucking with the trolls myself.

So in your case, I would just ask that you please not quote him while you banter with him, that way those of us who have him on ignore don't have to see his bullshit in your posts.

I'll just stay out of the threads he starts, but he's made it obvious he will try to disrupt other threads with his shenanigans.
