Quick Question about lights please help.

the lower number is what they actually put out.
the higher number is what their output is equivalent to in terms of incandescent light.
so if you buy two bulbs that are 23w (45w equivalent) you only have 46w, not 90w.

sorry I totally disagree with the bigger is better when it comes to cfls...25-35 watt bulbs put out more lumens per watt then bigger bulbs, which makes them more efficient..also the size and shape of larger cfl bulbs is much less efficient than the smaller ones as well, they're also cheaper and easier to find than huge ones...personally I wouldn't go past the 42watt ones. (always refer to actual watts, not equivalents) all of this is referring to screw-in base type cfl's...

Dude, when we say 'bigger', we meant size-wise, not watts-wise. That is why I specified '23W' or higher. It is obvious that if you have an 11W bulb, you will get 40W equivalent. If you get 23W bulb, it will be 100W-125W equivalent. Why get a bunch of low wattage bulbs that emit less light per square foot when you can get less, higher watt equivalent lights and distribute them further apart to get the same effect of a bunch of small lights bunched together? Compare what I am talking about with the multiple light techniques used with MH or HPS lighting. They use multiple lower wattage lights in comparison to single high wattage setups because of heat and light dispersion reasons. In this case, CFL setups do not produce too high of heat but since CFL lighting sucks in comparison to MH or HPS, It is recommended that you buy lights with higher watt equivalent due to light penetration.

LOL, I'm fuckin' stoned! Pay no mind.
