how can you tell if there male or female?

First time grower here. i kept the seeds in a wet napkin for a couple days before i put them in the soil, this morning "4 days later"
i got a sprout, i guess my question is how long before i can tell the sex of the plant? and what do yall mean by save the males to pollenate the females. any tips yall can share would be greatly appreiciated. thank yall...oh one more... whats the prefered wattage for the bulbs. i got em under an aquarium florecent right now,

Don't let the males pollinate the females. Unless you want mostly seeds and less potent buds, that is =)

It's going to be a while before you can determine the sex. 6 to 8 weeks probably, depending on how long you veg. the plants need 12 hours of darkness every night for a while before they'll show sex, but you need to have a strong, healthy plant before you start flowering them. Let them grow for at least 4 weeks before you change the lighting cycle.

Wattage, there really is no preferred wattage. It's more of a personal preference type of thing. I don't know how well aquarium fluoros work for growing cannabis. They aren't really designed for it.

You can grow cannabis with CFL bulbs. Cool white for veg and warm white for flowering. At least 100W (actual watts, not CFL equivalents) for each plant.

Aquarium florecent is a day light bulb it will be fine keep it close to the plant till the plants gets too big for the light to give good coverage you can add more I use a 125w grow lamp for veg & a 400w hps for flowering stage

thanks for the help so far, couple more idiot questions... so you keep the cool white and the warm white lights on, both on each plant 24 hrs a day for about 4 weeks???

You can do or cut the light to 18 hrs a day and down to 12 when you want to go into bud prodution this is when you need a hps light and they will show their sex in about a week or two of 12hr cycle you must have complete darkness for 12 hrs.
