plz help with germination...

ok well I put my seeds in a paper towel about 4 days ago, I sprayed the paper towel with warm water and put it between 2 plates....

so far none of the seeds have succesfully germd. they cracked open then turned black what is the problem??
temp iside space that they are in is 71F

Ok where did you get the seeds from ?

I will tell you what worked for me

Use the paper towel method and let them be wet for at least 24 hours.

When you check for the ones that have not opened, you can use needle nose pliers (Be very gentle) to crack them open.

Just apply enough pressure until they crack.

I had a lot of stubborn seeds that didn't want to germ. I used the above method with the needle nose pliers, and six hours later 90% of them had the roots coming out.

I take no credit for this method. Info was gotten from another site.

turning black is bad

its almost always some kind of fungal infection.

at that stage they seem very susceptible to slime molds.

isolate them if you can or it will spread. soak paper towel with hydrogen peroxide to prevent further infection.

ive had the paper towel method work, but ive also had it fail abysmally, seems harder to maintain the exact moisture conditions the seeds like.

i put my seeds in tap water that had been left out for 24 hours in shot glasses put the seeds in the glass and leave them in the dark and warm mine germinated in 7 hours

In nature a small percentage of seeds germinate. They get contaminated in one way or another. Seedbanks treat them in sterile conditions. We need to handle them the same way. One of the downsides of using bagseeds is they may have been exposed to all kinds of negatives. I have tried to germinate as many as 20-30 bagseeds at one time and none of them popped. If I can get fresh seeds directly from the source I'll use them but seeds literally from bags have usually been through too much.

I put mine in a small container of soil and dont do shit. 24-48 hours later I have a seedling.

I've also tried the paper towel method many times and had nothing but trouble with it. Its just a big pain in the ass. If I have a crapload of bagseeds I'll just throw several into a pot and if more than one sprouts either pull the extras, separate or grow a couple in one pot. Its just bagseed afterall not like you paid for them

I've also tried soaking in water for a day and noticed no difference. The ones that sprout after doing this probably would have anyway

thanks alot for the input guys. well I got the seeds from nirvana shope and I will try the papertowel method AGAIN with fresh seeds if the same happens I will just drop into plugs and give em light and will see.. I just dont understand I've ALWAYS had great germ ratio with towel method I dont know why now is any different. I'll keep you guys posted. wish me luck lol.

Stick the seed in SOIL pointy side down and add water. That simple. Paper Towel, Schmaper Schmowel.

I got 5 snowwhite fem seeds from Nirvana none germinated. I sent them an email to complain and they sent 5 more. All germinated (paper towel method).
