How long can you keep your res before changing?

hello everyone i was wondering how long i should keep my res before pumping out my water and replacing it with new water and nutes?

The reason i ask is because i have a 300 l res with auto top off. Let me explain what i do exactly so that you understand.

I put in fresh RO water i put in my A and B solutions, then i have a seperate container i mix my soup in which contains my fertilizer enzymes, root booster, etc... Now i pour the soup in the tank slowly and check ppm as im going and get it up to the desired level. The rest i keep in the container for topping off through out the week and i usuaylly run out about of soup arround mid week. I put in a bit every dar or two to even out the ppm cause of the auto top off ppms drop big time by day 4.

Since my res is so big and its being auto toped off i am wondering if i could keep doing this for 14 days and then i exchange the water and nutes?

I use advanced nutrients along with h202 and i am going to be adding a bio filter in a week or two.

you guys think 14 days is too long? i would like to save a bit on the nutes since AN is not exactly cheap and i would wan to be able and let the system sit and work for 14 days with out attending to it. As of right now everything is automated excpet the nutrient mixing. i realy dont want any root diseases or res problems please advice thanks alot!!!!

I would say it depends on how much salts your plants are adding to the mix.

If your ppms go down with the water level then its not much. Still its there and there is no way I know of to measure the difference.

What has always worked for me is if my ppms go up then top with clean water until you top with the amount of the res. This keeps my ppms down and usually takes a week.

When I get it right and I need to add nutes with the top to keep desired level then you got it balanced, I think you would have no problem aside from low Ph if you want to run it two weeks. Probably wouldn't hurt to run fresh for 24hrs between changes either. That will use the nutrients more efficiently too.

Well, I think.

I would let it go for about 10 days. Top up the water, but let the ppm ease of from days 7 - 10, then @ day 10 empty ur res and gie ur plants a flush. This way ur not topping up ur nutes only to empty them and ur plants are so 'under the pump' with nutrients.
This will also help u fend off a salt build up, which will be ineitable if u continue to top-up ur ppm.
Hope this helps :joint:

14 days is no problem. many growers don't change it until 12/12.

many grower now days dont change their res until after flowering, no changing during flowering cycle, i think they use synthetic nutes, but if your new i would stick with changing it every week and a half then experiment.

No I don't think 14 days is to long. Just wondering, doesn't h202 kill your enzymes? Had someone tell me that...???

I have also heard your not suppose to pre mix that shit...Again I don't,,,,, but I'm sure others do.

WOW never heard this...Doesn't sulfer and something else build up in the water????Man it would be great not to have to change during 12/12..Also could you do this not changing if you are using a 15 Gallon res???

I haven't changed my res for 7 weeks ... I started adding my flower nutes about 1 1/2 weeks into the 12/12 cycle.... I grow in coco... I wont change it until I've finished flowering..
This is what my girls look like at the moment..they have been in flower 2 1/2 weeks

I dump my 25 gal ebb & flow tank every two weeks. I tried to track PPM, but I am using hydroton and that always adds dust into the soup making good PPM tracking of the nutes damn near impossible.
Other than having the normal deficiencies of hydro needing calmax, it seems to work for me. I may or may not be dumping good nutes down the drain, but it works for me.
Well, it doesn't really go down the drain, I dump into my sump pump pit, and it in turn gets pumped out into parts of my yard that I grow vegetables in. The sump pump runs so often I move the hose around the outside garden to use the FREE water.

bushmang you flood and drain a table? drain to waste or recirculate? drip system with out recovery or wut? prolly doesn't matter, 14 days shouldn't be an issue with a nice large res like that.

Jats is growing in autopots, which I have yet to try.

i appreciate every ones response very nice!!! now i am on a NFt system using the nutriculture beds i built my own stands and pumps etc cause their kits are garbage.

I think 14 days is safe time frame, i use to do it every week on the nutriculture kit

wowie n-f-t, thats no joke. not my area of expertise. souds like you know what you are doing. I know NFT can be touchy, but I still can't imagine 2 weeks is too long. how low a ph does your system run? just a side question to build the old personal data-base.
in case I gotta run nute-film someday

NO,,,,the water is not recycled in the system I use. ((if it was, I would be changing the water every two weeks because the ph would be way out)).. I use these pots called auto pots ...and they let the water in as the plant needs it... no waste gardening.....The ph and the nutrients stay constant
I do have a large res with a large air stone and a large nutrient pump both going 24/7..
to keep it all mixed up....Seems to be working fine

General role is no more than 2 weeks unless you really know what you're doing or are continently checking the solutions PPM, PH, ect...and adding to the solution (some don't change their res at all, they just ad more nutes, water, and monitor the PH).

A lot of peeps change their res every week to avoid nute deficiency and PH swings (it won't guaranty you won't experience those thing it just lowers the chance).

If you are a novice or have moderate knowledge of whats going on you should be fine not changing your res for two weeks.

Bottom line, it all boils down to how much you want to spend on nutes for a grow, your level of comfort, and personal opinion.

yeah i check my tank everyday my ph fluctuation is at .1 to .2 per day so nothing drastic. ppm is at 1500 to 1800 max. check it every day and i keep it between those figures expect for days 10 to 14 which i leach out the res and put in fresh nutes.

I want to go organic with this monkey juice stuff from advanced nutrients but i am worried about clogs and algee and shit so i might just stick with my A and B solution.
