D and A's New feminized soil grow.

My friend and I are starting a new grow. Any advice will help us because we are both newbies. So far, are plan is using blue mystic seeds, which are supposed to be feminized, have very little smell, have good dense buds, and be very short. We are planning on buying a pre paid credit card and getting 10 seeds from nirvana. Then, we will use happy frog soil mixed with 25% pearlite. For vegatative lighting we were thinking of using 4 cool white fluorescent 48 " tubes for 5 plants and 4 13 watt cfl's hanging for lighting the lower parts of the plants. Then, when budding comes replacing the fluorescent tubes with an HPS light of probably 100 watts keeping the cfl's up. I am still not sure if a 100 W HPS light needs a ballast so help on that would be nice. For ventilation i was thinking using small fans to make an exhaust/intake system + 2-3 oscillating fans. For temperature we are not quite sure because this grow is under his house and during winter and fall months, it gets quite cold so we were hoping to find a thermostat or heater that keeps it at 75 F. And last, the fert i am using for vegatative is peters 24-8-16 fert which i will use after 1 month from germ. and my budding fert, will be miracle grow, 15-30-15 if i cant find better.


I know my plan has some flaws, but im a beginner and please let me know what i can change. I really need help with HPS lighting so help me out.

just go to google and search for cpu fans and get an american express card with a hundred dollars on it(can be used almost every where) and buy the seeds 40 dallors and the fans are about 11 dollars so 30 total for that and have an extra 30 bucks for other stuff

What type of fluorescent tubes are you planning on? If they are T12's, they will be allright for a couple of weeks, but I don't think they would do well for the rest of your vegging.
Yes, all HPS lights require a ballast, matched to the wattage of the bulb.

I was going to use cool white 4100k 40W tubes, or daylight 6500k 40W tubes for vegging. Why wouldnt they work?

They will work, to a degree - but they do not provide enough lumens for your plant to really thrive in. You can use them - but past a certain point, growth will slow, and you won't get what you could have gotten with better lights. They definately won't give you enough light to flower - you'll have small, loose buds.

Are you suggesting CFL's instead of HID lights because at this point i cant afford an HID light. We actually have four 48" fixtures which would be 8 40W tubes. Then, we were gonna use 4 20W 5000k CFL's for vegging also, and 4 23W 2700k cfl's for budding plus we were gonna switch the tube to warm white/red, or whatever tubes have the best spectrum for budding. Do you think that will work? Its 400watts for 5 plants during veg, and 412watts for 5 plants during budding.
