Are my leaves growing too close together?

Hi all, this is my first time growing, and I have a question. The leaves on my plants seem to be growing very close together, I assume because I am using 1 CFL per plant that is very close to each plant, so all of the leaves are growing towards it.

I'm afraid, though, that the lower leaves aren't getting any light because they're being blocked by the upper ones.

Pictures are attached. Is it normal for them to be that close together? Or should I maybe raise my lights a bit? Or remove the reflector hood around them that is focusing the light directly in the center of the plant?

It's not normal for Noob, no. Usually they are stretchy and skinny and falling over cos they can't support themselves.

Yours are off to a great start. Seriously. But I hope you are going to provide them some proper lighting as they get bigger though!

That's great news... thanks! For me, lighting is the trickiest part as I'm trying not to get TOO elaborate with this. Any suggestions on what kind of proper lighting I can move towards as they get bigger? I have been thinking that as they get bigger, one CFL per plant (even though they are 26W CFL's- 100W equivalent) is not going to be enough light. FYI, I have 4 plants, each with one CFL in a round reflector hood a couple inches away from it, and then also a few bulbs hanging down with no hood just to provide a little more light to the sides.

No worries. But forget equivilant watts. That doesn't mean anything. I'm not a CFL grower, so I can't really help and I would never recommend them anyway, unless they are the spectrum adjuststed growing bulbs. Also known as envirolites....like this....

available in 125, 200 and 250 Watt versions....that's real watts! and they are spectrum adjusted for growing plants. Blue spec bulbs for veg and red spec for flowering.

hmmmm i use regular daylight spectrum and get great results but i like the sound and looks of those lights there how much they tunnin on price???

I know this thread has been dead for awhile but this is what a cluster fuck of growth looks like early on, this is what im experiencing right now... Seems like the growth is to compact that the fan leaves stems are twisting backwards. If you look at the picture with my finger holding down a fan leaf thats where it comes out and the next picture is what it looks when i take my hand away. For instance when a new set of leaf comes out instead of the leafs on the right and left side of the top they twist around in a 180degree so instead of them being flat out the twist around.. Does anyone know what will cause that?

They will be ok. This girl leaves were also twisting like your but look at her now. Sitting pretty in a 5 gallon bucket.

I use this T5 CFL for veg. I'm a new grower also and mine have been growing fine IMO.

I just purchased this 2700k CFL for flowering It cost around $65Au free postage. I have not started using this one though.
