Cheaper temp gauge:

cool setup. Has a water proof probe for "outdoor" temps. My probe stays under the canopy by my plants so I know the temps there. I also use the probe to test water temps.

Cheaper PH kit:

Not as accurate as a meter, but it works.

Amazon also has cheap CFL packs. I buy mine at my local lowes, along with y splitters and large clamp reflectors. They are pretty cheap. Just try and buy a couple lights every weekend or something.

Sounds like your on the right track. I got the bubleponics system with the drain kit. You definately will need the drain kit or you could use the pump to pump the water out, but once the plant gets big it may be a little cumbersome to re-route the pump out of the tank to flush it and you'll need to that once a week, or at least I flush every week. It's easy and doesn't take that long to do. As far as building your own, I wouldn't take that advise. If you walk through Wal-mart and Petsmart you'll see all the individual parts, but if you add all the pieces up after tax, you'll only save about $30. So rock on.

that is too small for me to read even after I doubled it.
I don't know what you are talking about with the pH meter. You do not get a meter, you get the test strips, with the kit.
Oh, sorry, I didn't realise it was so small. Can you see it now?

I got the extra flowering timer because I'm sure at some point I'll need it. The only thing that I wonder about is whether or not that pH meter comes with the calibration solution.

yes, I can read that, and the kit comes with a timer, so you will have an extra one, or return it adn they will refund you.

That pH meter does not come with the calibration solution, but it ought to not need re-calibrating, on your first grow.

and you MUST use some teflon tape or plumbers glue or plumbers putty with the drain plug, or it will eventually leak.

My father owns a plumbing business so that shouldnt be hard to aquire. Not that its even expensive though lol. I'm gonna go ahead and get the ph calibration solution just to see if its calibrated properly out of the box. I think i'm also going to get the calibration solution for the uh....ppm meter i forget what its called.

Bro, I'll give you my 2 cents

The CFL's are great for seedlings and vegging, but if you want to flower 4 girls, a 400 HPS will do the job much, much better than 400W's of CFL's.

A "cooltube" or vented hood will aid in getting rid of the heat(and you have to get rid of it). Plus bring in fresh, outside air will help big time too.

Check out my journal and you'll see how I went through a few phases until I got the set-up that works well.

I think after a couple grows I'm eventually going to get a grow tent with a 1k watt conversion HID. I've heard growtents make it a lot easier to control the temperature and then I wouldn't have to drill massive holes in my closet. :P I'm going to be posting pics of the growspace soon. It's a closet that's inside of my closet. At the moment it has a bunch of shelves in it but I'm about to take them all down.

I haven't had any leaking yet and I didn't use anything except the gaskets and washers. but it has only been 4 weeks

So, after looking through the seed vendor reviews I don't think I'm going to order from nirvana. The only problem is I wanted some of that wonder woman. So I checked attitude out and it's 20 bucks more but they guarentee shipping so I'm going to go with that.
What is a good yielding skunky strain? That grows rather short and is mainly indica based.

Well, my plans have been halted a bit. It wont be another month until I get enough money to do this. But in the mean time I'm gonna start a grow journal and start the cleanup of the closet. I'll post before and after pics. Maybe I should wait for my stuff to get here lol.
