gnats?

okay, this is my first grow
i have one plant
5 gallon bucket
holes in bottom
standing on bricks
inside clean litter pan (to catch water)
inside grow.

i have gnats ( i think they're gnats at least)
no water for 24 hours
washed and cleaned bricks and pan.
plant is 3 inches tall. 6 leaves
2 really small ones
(kinda growing short i think, but thats okay. right?)

someone said beer will help?
do i just pour it into soil?
or leave a dish in the bucket?
would mildly soapy water work better?

do i have to get rid of my soil?
(plant is just now recovering from transplant shock)
please help. can't let my baby die

fuck all that.

buy a $1 bottle of hydrogen peroxide from the grocery store. Add a few tablespoon of HP to each watering. It'll reduce the gnats after a few weeks...and your plants love it anyways as it oxygenates the roots.

It's typically sold in brown bottles and is 3% concentration.

I had gnats...HP worked. That's all I can say.

yeah mix it in a gallon...1/2 gallon of water...whatever...and then water.

i also had them and hp didn't work fast enough for my taste. i bought hotshot no pest strips. around 6 dollars and lasts for 4 months. it keeps them from ever coming and kills the ones that are there. they were gone the next day. someone on here has a pciture of them i believe in the bugs section.

Are you sure it ain't mites? Are there fine webs spun between leaves?

I had the same issue. I bought fly strips and hung them for the ones that were flying around. I also covered my plants in an inch to 2 inches of playsand. Gnats can't get through it when/if they hatch.

The gnats won't damage your plants, but their larvae will eat the roots. I use Mosquito Dunks (available at Home Depot and garden centers). They contain a bacillum that kills the larvae- no chemicals, completely safe. I crumble a bit in the dirt and float a Dunk in a 5 gal bucket that I water from. I have been gnat-free for over a year, but just got some clones from a friend and got an infestation. I ran out IMMEDIATELY for some Mosquito Dunks, because I know they work.

I let mine soak in the water that I was going to use for at least a half day so it can hydrate and release the bacteria in the water.

I crush them in a plastic bag with a rubber mallet and then sprinkle over the soil then water it in. Works like a charm. I also always hang a hot shot strip in my veg closet and my flowering tent. Cheap insurance against any intruders.

I fill my 5 gal buckets and let them sit overnight to let off the chlorine before adding the Dunks, cuz I'm afraid it will kill the bacilli.

You don't worry about smoking that stuff? They say to keep it away from any food storage areas. I've used them in veg., but won't in flower.

i'm alternating 24 hours dry, then treating with the hp.
should i be using hp every day?
maybe i'll just get the dunks...

They will take 2 weeks or even a bit more with hp to fully get rid of.

Every other day is fine. What i like about hp is that it's good for the root system.

Anything yellow/sticky will attract gnats if you want to get rid of the adults quick.

The hp will kill unborn gants...not the adults (who have short lifespans) So really you are waiting for the gants to die natural deaths with hp...and the babies/larve to not replace the dead adults.
