Do I have enough height?

Here's the deal...

I started off with a relatively high ceiling, but by the time I got the grow box, reservoir, and light mover in there, I am now left with very little space to grow in.

Set up is as follows:

my reservoir is 18" tall
aero box above it is 16" in height
and the light mover set up takes up quite a bit more than I expected as well..

leaves me with just 5' of space, but 1' of that will be the reflector itself so there is really only 4'.

I am doing a SOG and only need 3' tall plants, but that only give me 1' of distance between my plants and 1000watt lights.

So I guess my question is this:

is 1' enough distance between my plants and the 1000w lights considering that I have them on a mover and they are both being cooled (in line) by a single 580cfm fan? I mean that should help, but can the mover and fan bring me down from the normal 2' of distance to 1'?

If not, then I don't know what to do other than to maybe switch from an aero set up to a very basic DWC where I would not need a reservoir (eliminating 18"). But that would suck, since I am halfway into this build already. Then again it would be best to sort it out now than to get my plants 3' tall and have no room to move the lights up and then have to watch em burn.

will the 1' be good enough? otherwise, any ideas?

cheers

Hi Cissy.... if your going to sog then you should have enough space ....you will have to tie those ladies down....and the lights can be closer if they are cooled.... sounds like it'll be a squeeze but it should work...........good luck with that :^D

naw man.
build a screen and grow sideways.
one time i just built a stand for my pot so it was at a 50 degree angle and then just trained the plant to grow parallel to a 4' t5 lamp.
it was sick.
all in 10" of vertical room too..

Yes, a squeeze indeed.

Not so sure I can tie them down when lollipop'n em though?

With 3' plants I will have roughly 14" between the tops and these 1000watt toasters. They are cooled, but 2x1000w with only 1 fan. This is going to be close. I'd just hate to get that far and find out that the close was just TOO close once it is too late.

thx

I have 4 rows of 10 under each light. 7" of space for each plant. Not sure I can do that in my set up.

lollipopping is not advised by the way.
low yields and stressed out plants..
oh no?

I was basing my set up on Al B Fuct's grow. Seems to be quite popular here and apparently many people lollipop their girls.

I actually thought to myself that lollipoping would stress the plants, but figured that since so many others successfully do it that my thoughts were just wrong.

I would think about cutting the legs shorter on your tray table.....?

Only problem with that is that I can't find a shorter reservoir to fit underneath it.

Right now I am leaning towards abandoning the whole aero set up. Tossing my PVC and the water pumps and just putting these on the floor without a reservoir. A very basic DWC.. A tub full of water and a shitload of airstones.

lol love you sig btw

I don't think I would need a drip system or sprayers in any of these since they will only be used for flowering?? Maybe I am missing something here, but the way I understand it you can just put them in the water and bubble it up.. I preferred the aero set up, since I figured it would be easier to manage in the long run, but if it is no more effective than this alternative, then no big deal. I'll take a couple of the holes that were meant for plants and just use those for changing the water/nutes and never look back. :)

Sound OK?

oh that....I have that because people were always calling me a dude .... but I'm a girl...I don't want to be a dude man...... ha ha ha

I use these pots called autopots,,with coco... they are a passive hydro set up with a res up high feeding the pots by gravity .... here is a photo or 2....

this is the pot with its "holding" system

they are very versatile ,,,you can easily move them around,as required

From the photos you've got a lot of width/depth, just challenged on height. what about a flood and drain bucket setup? There's a nice DIY Tutorial here on the site.
