I have LEO in the family. If you guys honestly knew what they go through each day, many of you would think a lot differently about cops.

If they'd quit pepper spraying me when I try to hand em my ID i might just do that but as it is I have had one unarmed aquaintance shot to death by a police officer while he was doing absolutely nothing wrong. Friends and relatives beaten.
I've had so many negative experiences with the police I can't have any sympathy for their position at this point.
THeyneed to quit acting like they are Army Rangers and the average Joe on the street is an Afgani Taliban soldier.:peace:

 EXACTLY, I didn't want to say it cuz I'm not trying to put down anyone's family or friends in law enforcement, but I didn't form my opinion of cops from TV or other people bitching, I formed my opinion based on a lifetime of BAD personal experiences.

Ditto. I can describe only one experience in my lifetime with law enforcement that could possibly be considered "positive", and really the only positive aspect was that they actually RESPONDED when I called for help. Aside from showing up, they did very little to rectify the situation.

There are no cops in my immediate circle of friends, and no cops even in my extended circle of friends. I find it hard to believe that I could connect with a cop on any kind of meaningful level.

They are people just like you and me however in my personal experiences with cops both county and city i would say 50% are dicks on and off duty, they have big chips on their shoulders and their allowed to because they have a badge and a gun while the rest of us dont. Dont get me wrong we need cops and there are some real good ones out there that i believe are truly trying to help the community and make a difference, but there are just as many out there that dont give a rats ass about anything or anyone. These cops are the ones that give LEo a bad name ,my ex wife became a cop about 6 years after we split .She knows im a regular smoker and shes cool with it , seeing how she smoked on occasion to when we were married. The bottom line is that society needs cops but unfortunately we have to deal with the bad ones too. And most of the cops that are dicks wouldnt be shit without their guns and badges, these are the same guys and gals that go home and treat their families and evryone around them like shit to ,those cops are just miserable pricks in general that no matter what or who they are in life wont or cant be happy. So next time u run across a cop thats a total asshole just take it in stride and realize that no matter how big of a dick he/she is they aint shit, their just unhappy people with a little bit of authority and a BADGE

ViRedd cops arent the only ones who have to deal with major shit each and every day, we all do in one way or the other. so what gives cops the right to ABUSE their power? They are here because we pay their salaries ,its like someone posted to protect and serve. not to harass and belittle. I wont make any excuses nor should u for cops that abuse their power. They are no different then the same street thugs that they arrest .

They have no right to abuse their power. That's what Internal Affairs are for. Every police department has an Internal Affairs department and they take EVERY complaint against a police officer very seriously, no matter how frivolous that complaint is. My relative has had two complaints filed against him. Even though the complaints were pure bullshit, he was drug through he wringer over them ... and when everything finally came down on his side, it was then over.

Every complaint, and it's resolution, is kept in the officer's permanet file. Believe me, these complaints are taken seriously and can cause termination.

The lesson here is ... if you are mistreated, treated unfairly or abused by a police officer, file a complaint with his department's Internal Affairs department. That's why they're there.

Cops that protect people from real crimes are admirable. Arresting / Incarcerating people for owning their own bodies and smoking a plant is ludicrous. "Just doing my job", is a cop out. When victimless "criminals" are arrested the cop is aiding an unjust system and is wrong, regardless of the circumstances.

Peace officers can be good, unthinking power tripping cops are not. I've met few of the first and far too many of the last.

Fuck ticket quotas :finger:
That's another fallacy as well. There are NO quotas. There are times though, when the state government will give money to local police departments to pay for overtime and to direct enforcement in a specific area, say like DUI enforcement.

Individual police officers who are motivated will "specialize" in certain areas. For example, my relative really likes to go after drunk drivers. He's become somewhat of an expert at spotting behavior that only DUIs exhibit.

He says that he won't sit down the street from bars to wait for patrons to come out and drive away like lazy police officers do because that takes all of the challenge out of the job for him.

The guy has some really funny stories about some of the drunk drivers he's busted.

He also consistently leads his department in DUI arrests. I wonder how many lives he's saved? I wonder if he's saved any of your family members?

the fact is if there are quotas or not, the cops try and make money for the state (its not a deterrent, they extort money from citizens)

the cops for the most part are a money making operation, why should i get a 200 dollar speeding ticket when i already pay taxes and theres some asshole down the street slinging crack

I'm reading this book now and a group of officers were standing around and a guy walked out of his apartment building and as he looked at the group of police reached in his back pocket for his wallet and the police shot him 41 times. They "thought it was a gun" and "he was known for trouble". Of course the police got out of this inocent by the court

Answer: To give you an incentive not to exceed the speed limit in the future.

I can hear you addressing the cop: "Uhhh officer, you shouldn't write me a ticket. I should be allowed to drive my Ferrari 230 miles per hour on the freeway because I'm a multi-millionare and I pay $700,000 in taxes every year!"

According to those, and a lot of other stuff you can find just by using google, there ARE ticket quotas.

The second link is a news report about COPS complaining about ticket quotas.
Man, this is news to me ... thanks for posting the links.

I actually have two LEOs in the family, one a retired CHP and the other a city cop/traffic officer. Both have told me that they were not/have not been subject to quotas. So, maybe this is something new on the scene? Perhaps with budget problems? I also suspect that in some cases in the links, its an effort to get some lazy cops to produce something.
