The Beatles' music went through several different phases. Many music critics and fans say the music took a different turn when they decided to stop touring in 1966. They had that much juice. They simply said, 'We're done.' No more touring.

I think that their music really changed after Bob Dylan introduced them to weed. After that they started making albums substantially different from the teenie bopper Twist and Shout fluff. Their best album IMHO is Rubber Soul, recorded after weed but while they were still touring.

Listen to I saw Her Standing There and then to Norwegian Wood and you will hear what I mean.

But what is truly amazing about The Beatles is their music, for one period, was actually a conversation with other artists; especially Brian Wilson and Bob Dylan. Sergeant Pepper was made in response to Pet Sounds which in itself was an answer to Revolver.
