ahhhhhhhaaaaaa, i just read that thread you posted.

what in hell are you talking about!!!! he gies you every answer, then you take some pre-concieved notion and claim he's wrong.
yo're just completely ignorant of what he's telling you.

roots need oxygen, right, we've agreed on that, so now how can you not accept that a root will stop growing when directly exposed to it? you are jsut completely ignoring everything he sais and focusing on your one statement "yeah but no but yeah but no! ROOTS NEED OXYGEN!". it goes beyond that, plants need water, but you don't just chuck any old water anywhere and as much as you want...

WHAT? Dude, get off my bro chitown's back, he is giving you CORRECT information, with no indirect variation to it.

Roots love to live somewhere they can breath. They cannot have effective gas exchange with very, very clumped up, very hard and compact soil. I understand what Ganja was saying about the bottoms of the roots being exposed is a bad thing. But, it's a good thing, because it tells you when it's time to transplant to another pot! Don't unnecessarily transplant like a maniac. Be sweet to your ladies.

and why you may ask.

I don't hate you. :eyesmoke:
I just hate that I just left the political/religous threads because others are looking for fights.
I came to the growing thread to get away from the insanity.
Why all the arguing over air/oxygen?

You can grow more than one way. The only way I can see that "air" could possibly kill a plant is if you were to leave that exposed root in the smaller container for too long.
A very mature bonzai is a perfect example of this.
When you keep the roots trimmed back, it will continue to grow...and remain very healthy at that.
Personally, I tend to upgrade my pots around 3 times throughout a grow. That's just my personal preference.
You "can" go ahead and graduate those roots to the 3 gallon pot, but I just don't see the reason for it unless you are growing outside.
