I have read many times over that when we flower it needs to be pitch dark. if there is any light it will confuse the plant and cause all these problems! well my thought is in nature it is never completely dark we have a moon and stars that give us some lightat night so is it realy that big of a deal? I do my best to keep my room as dark as possible but you can see light in the room when its dark. from my veggin area. I have never had any convert back or hemi so my question is it realy that big of a deal?

tell me the reason it needs to be pitch black. using my iPod it puts in words it thought you meant! but you say it needs to be and my question is why? do you know or is it because you read it? I can go in my room and still see It isn't bitch black and I still have fanttastic yeilds and I have never had any revert or hemi. so what is the reason for pitch black?

I honestly agree with you but i think the whole total darkness thing is because people are afraid. I have the personality type where I will worry about the plants untill they are in my bong. So having complete darkness gives me peace of mind, and I think people like me give advice with that frame of mind. my 2 cents.

As I understand it - it's about optimum conditions. Pitch black is better than nearly black.

well because the plant uses something called a photoperiod throughout it's life cycle. The length of darkness controls what photoperiod the plant will be in. Veg or flower. So too much disturbance and your plants could herm... As for the moon, just think of how bright it gets on a full moon night. Try not to let anymore light than that spill into your flower room. good rule of thumb i'd say.

So yes, it is VERY important.

any light during the dark fucks with the plant's photosynthesis receptors. if light in a dark room is continually on during off hours in 12-12 the quality of the bud can be compromised often times resulting in longer flowering and less bud. why indoor bud has more bud then outdoor if done correctly. use a green light if you need to work in your grow room during off hours

It's about probabilities. The probability of a hermie is increased by any amount of light. maybe it's only 2% instead of 1%, but that's an increase. It's also affected by the strain. Some of them are not that stable and are more prone to hermie anyway. If you have grown a strain that has been exposed to some light and didn't hermie, it probably won't in the future. But if you are experimenting with strains and want to be safe, it is worth the effort to eliminate all light. That's where the caution to make it totally dark comes from.

umm, I think the only reason indoor can yield more than outdoor is because of the fact the we control the length of the growing season indoors. more veg = more bud ;)

yeah thats true man, but nothing beats the sun. ;) You can have the most perfect conditions but you'd still be imitating the outdoor grow season. cheers bro! bongsmilie

yes indoor has more bud because the conditions are always the there is no rainy days over cast cloudy. and most of the time when we plant outdoors we might check on them from time to time only watering them when it rains. also Imho is that we just toss a bunch of seeds in the ground and go back in the fall when we feel it is time to harvest, males and females. that could be a reason for less bud! well as far as bitch black goes I think it is over rated. these plants can take alot of abuse. so I can't think of how much stress we have to Putin aplant to hemi. I have one plant now that I knocked the air out of my deep water and I lost every plant but this one. It lost just about every leaf and I gave it some nutes fresh air stone and over the coarse of the last month it has regrown many leafs and is catching up to others I have in floweringbeing weeks behind. no hemi! so from the brink of death to beautiful flowers and still no hemi. they can take alotof abuse( stress)

i think if u had light leaks from day one the plants would not know the differents and the hermi thing comes from genetics i'm far from an expert but from my few grows this is my theory. last grow bagseed 7 plants six males 1 hermi. grow now 9 plants seven females 2 unsure 3 weeks 12/12

well to me asking if it has to be pitch black is like asking does the light has to be pentratingly bright

yes to both

you want the strongest of both
the darkest of Bitch black there is
and the brightest, most pentrating of light thats there is

a dull verison of either will produce unwanted results
