Need an electricians expertise

Hi all you electrician experts. I have a question and I'm not sure where exactly to post it but I figured TnT would be a good place.

This thread isn't related to growing pot or lighting - I just need to know how I might go about reversing the directional spin on an old record player. I need it to go counterclock wise and as I'm sure you know, record players go clockwise.

+rep for some good help and thanks to all in advance!

I'm no electrician, but I know that if you have an old school fan that doesn't have one prong bigger than the other (polarized plug) and you plug it in upside down, then it will spin backwards. I would assume it operates on the same principle. But don't take my word for it, I'd hate for you to burn down your house listening to my hack advice.

if it runs on dc uc can switch the wire on the output of the transformer but i wouldnt recommend trying it if your unsure of what your doing

So I'm trying to switch the direction of an old record player from the 50's. Do you think that would be DC? It plugs into a regular outlet and it isn't polarized.

it could be dc but to find out with somithing that old u might need 2 know how to use a multimeter

i'd just reverse the wire to the motor, wheter the mechanics of the arm and needle position is condusive to running backwards and lasting is another matter...
I would suggest you get or make a digital copy, I'm sure there is software to revarse and audio clip.

you wont find a plug in record player that runs on 12v... the transformer makes noise.......

only a wound motor will reverse if you change the polarity...
you can get a turntable reverse switch for like 20 bux if you do a google search

Thanks all. I just took the thing apart and switched the motor upside down over the gearing. It works great. It's an old record play that I'm using for a Halloween decoration. Works great though now and I have a much better understanding of how record players work now. I won't be playing anything on it, just need it to run backwards. Of course if anyone has any good suggestions for backward message music, that might be fun.
