Amsterdam let down

Anybody else here get the chance to go to Amsterdam?
I had the opportunity, and was really excited, sure being in Canada gives me a lot more leeway in smoking weed but to do so within legal comfort, that's pretty nice.

Well, I get there, and sample all the more popular smoke shops and some of the ones outside of the tourist areas and let me tell you; horrible letdown.

The hash was good only because it was Moroccan, got me properly fucked. All the weed was medium grade though, shit was so depressing.

How about you guys?

P.s. Wtf is with speed in Europe? Methamphetamines and other Amphetamines being so popular? Why is there little weed, and all of what they have is bunk? especially in Amsterdam... WEED IS LEGAL THERE!! it was such a heartbreak for me. I'll admit, western Europe has the weed thing down though but damn...speed still isn't cool...lol.

I highly recommend smoking hash and only hash there, saves the money in my opinion so it's not wasted on the weak leaf. The hash is actually superb, I'm more a fan of the pot so me saying that is something else.

The atmosphere is 'the bomb' though - I just wish they had good leaf...maybe it's because I'm Canadian and spoiled when it comes to my Marry Jane or maybe I just had horrid luck but the whole two months I was in Europe I didn't get a good weed smoke, not once. I had family and friends all around too who lived where I went. France, germany, belgum, amsterdam, spain, poland. Only place I had decent weed was in Germany, and I got mugged by some Turkish people in a park....long story..lol.

The hash though!

I can't see a seed bank, a place that perfects and creates strains, growing medium grade weed... maybe you should of paid for top shelf?

Did man, did. I was there for two weeks out of the two months I was gone, smoked multiple times every day. Mad sessions, had a blast about it, I really did have a fun time, but man the weed they had was kind of bunk.

The laws are weird, it's legal to sell in shops technically, but not legal to buy, as in for the shops. It's also legal to smoke, again just not to buy as the customers. Randomly at some of the cafes they would yell to everyone to make sure they had there passports out, and if they didn't then to leave the shop or they'd be fined because the officers were patrolling the area and might have stopped in. I don't know the details, I was high the few times it happened, and incidentally enough had a passport on me.

Amsterdam has this touristy thing going on where it draws in people, and also that it's not worth the law enforcements time and energy to bust a single individual every incident so it's generally accepted throughout the stores.

I'm sure the weed was there, somewhere, but I went to all the 'touristesque' smoke shops, purchased multiple top end selections in every shop, hash AND weed. The later was a let down across the charts.

I will admit, I'm sure I exaggerated slightly, I did smoke some pretty proper shit there, but it wasn't anywhere near what I've smoked back here at home, and wasn't to par on what I've been told and what I was expecting.

All and all with the shops included along with the rest of the city, it came off as horribly over rated and touristy. A mighty hype up from what it actually is.

Cool place though regardless.

i went to amsterdam for 4 days and all the weed I smoked was real good.

did you go to La Tertulia coffee shop, and try their Kai Mai bud, i mean I consider myself a pretty strong smoker, and I couldn't finish a whole thin joint of that weed....it was just ridiculous. that coffee shop is famous where i'm from cuz it shares a name with a bohemian cafe, and every one that goes to amsterdam goes there....

also, amsterdam is not about the bud

it's about the art, the beer, the sex, the magic mushrooms and THEEEN the buds....... if you went to amsterdam just to get high you should've stayed home.

i flew half way around the world, spent 10 weeks backpacking europe, got as far as Belfast (didn't even know where that was when I went), and Amsterdam was the best place I went. beautiful city, great people, good bud, shrooms, cheap beer n food, it was great....

Second to that was Berlin, then Madrid...

if you flew to amsterdam to get high you're out of your mind....

the weed is as strong as it is in the states or canada. it's not about the weed.

there are a lot of different strains, and a lot of different highs.

i spent 4 days there cuz i was too tripped out by the end of it i just wanted to leave, but all the weed was good, not bunk, shit weed, regular, i mean, if you want a stronger high upgrade to crack.

weed's only going to get sooo strong.

it's about the flavors, the different highs, and the different coffee shops

P.S. I walked right past the 420 coffee shop, i could tell it was a ripoff...

No need to preach that to this choir.

I've smoked and do smoke a reasonable amount, so I have some aptitude when comparing the potency of marijuana and other THC oriented drugs.
It truly was nothing above mediocre, and as I said before, I'm sure the good shit was there, wasn't saying they didn't have it, just saying my two week stay
was a horrible letdown and I couldn't find it any better then a needle in a haystack orbiting the sun. Wanted to see if it was just me or not, apparently I'm solo in this. Let me pose this question to anyone reading this who has something to say that's been to Amsterdam, instead of defending whether it has or does not have 'premium grade' shit, is it worth it for me to give her another go next year when I go to Goa? or should I just go visit another cool place I haven't been to?

where did you go? A lot of times if you go there with the obvious intention of smoking weed, and they realize that you're foreign, they won't give you the best that they have. What I smoked there was really good, but I've smoked bud that was just as good that came out of a one bedroom appt. in Kentucky. The days of Amsterdam or Canada being the only place you can find good weed are over. The technology, and genes are out there. You have sites like this full of experienced growers that are willing to offer advice. So, Amsterdam is a cool city, and I'm sure Vancouver is also, but the bud they have there is no better than anything anyone can go to any larger town in any state and find if you know the right people. Weed isn't LEGAL in amsterdam. It's tolorated.

I wanna go to england, never got to go to london cuz i was supposed to take a bus from ireland but i ran short with my travel money, so I had to beg my sister to give me some money for a ferry back to france, I then easyjetted my ass to madrid and just couchsurfed on a girls house for a couple of days, which kinda sucked cuz i was broke......


i saw the rock/goth scene in germany, pretty fucked up, not my thing, but it was cool. saw the club scene in madrid, it was alright but kinda miamish, i ate the shit out of some food in italy, did the comic thing in brussels, climed the tower in paris, and rode around in plenty of trains n buses..... europe was fun, but i spent ten weeks (almost) and it was too long, at least for me, by the end of it my back was killing me, and so were my feet......

my next trip is gonna be las vegas (i'm a boxing fanatic) for a big fight, after that, the world cup in brazil (i got friends there :D), with a cruise or two thru the caribbean in between.

can't wait!

I'm a dutch girl, and I've never heard of someone saying that Amsterdam is a poor experience. Perhaps venturing outside of A'dam might have helped. Did you try Den Haag, Utrecht, or up north by Groningen....?

actual shrooms - psilocybin is now illegal in amsterdam

truffles, or psilocybe isn't, but they're weak.

I just took 3 grams of canadian shrooms a few moments ago though, so yay lol.


I'm glad I made this thread though, somewhat reassured me about that place, I may just give her another swing next time I'm around. When I was there I was so depressed about it I said I'd never go back lol.


I like mah weed ;)

As some who lives in NL I feel that there are some valid points here. What you have to realise is that the weed sold in Coffeeshops is produced in a lot of cases by growers like people on RIU (the good stuff is anyway) then there is weed grown solely for larger commercial gain, a lot of weed in coffeeshops is actually the same.....(bunk as described above)

Example: Some places will have 6 different weeds on there menu, but may only have 3 or 4 strains to sell, and you can bet one of them is Power Plant (not dissing it, but just seems to be one of those yielding weeds that big growers sell) The person in the shop then has to juggle the weed/con the buyer.

However, not all weed is bunk as described. AS Hollander says, you need to know which shops and then be treated well. But there are def good ones in Dam.

Can you remember which ones you visited?

p.s Even Seed companies get busted by cops these dayz!!! WTF!!
