I was going to get a heating pad, but my co-worker advised me against it saying it wasn't helpful. I would tend to believe that it would be though, as he has only grown ALL NATURAL and doesn't believe information found on the internet can be true, lol. Im using Black Gold Organic seedling mix. I will be updating pics tomorrow!start your seeds in a jifft organic seedling and cutting mix or something similar, i have never had a seed not sprout out of like 60+ seeds ive started in it. a heating pad is also extremely helpful(i always use one under my clones/seedlings and its amazing how much quicker it makes rooting and germinating happen)..do you have one?
it will be easier for me to construct a full size room for the mother plant, realistically, as I have altered MY room by adding a false wall.Sure can!
I suggest growing them all to be about a month old and then topping and using the top as a clone. If your going to grow a mother plant you got to get cloning in. When the clones establish roots put them in a tub with warm white CFLs in it on a 12/12 schedule to sex them. You can then use the clones to pick the mothers and kill the males. Keeping your flowering plants in with the mothers and clones is a bad idea. Really 2 CFLs in the day light spectrum left on 20/4 in a small mylar lined box will keep a mother alive just fine. Just add ventilation and you have a simple and stealth box for mothers that can be as short as 2-3 foot tall. Dub used speaker boxes and I use tupperware, same job same purpose. I also use a tupperware with CFLs and a seedling tray for my clones. The tupper ware are easy to stack and make them look like typical storage, I have even stored them out in public when guests stop by. No problems with stealth.
Mostly old wives tales, a clone is a genetic duplicate of the mother plant. Typically what I do is keep a mother plant for three months and clone off of it, then I replace it with a clone of itself and it will do the exact same thing as the mother and give clones of the same quality. Typically the bigger the clone the faster they root and are ready to flower, woody clones take longer to root, cuttings taken from lower on a plant will typically root easier, and I'm sure there are plenty of other tips I'm missing for you.
You may want to take a look at Al B Fuct's cloning thread.
Give it a shot and put in the practice.

pics when i get home from work. 10 hours from post time.it will be easier for me to construct a full size room for the mother plant, realistically, as I have altered MY room by adding a false wall.
I am not sure when to clone my babies and not harm them...
Status Update:
Biggest plant has 16 leaves.
My two rhinos are starting their 2nd set,
and the kinda deformed one is, well, still kinda deformed but making it. Its got like, 10 leaves or something.
PICS TOMORROW!
Side note: I agree, I do think my plants are stretching too much, and I have moved them closer to the light. I had them under a 400 watt HPS for a while, and that was TOO hot for them in their baby stage :'( CFLs from now on.
If you get a heat mat get one with a thermostat, it is super easy to cook your seedlings and clones but heat does stimulate root development.I was going to get a heating pad, but my co-worker advised me against it saying it wasn't helpful. A mother plant doesn't need much space, a shelf unit with CFLs or a tub or box with CFLs will be plenty, shouldn't need a whole room if you keep mothers for only three months and replace with clones. How many plants do you plan to flower in a SoG? Plan to take more than required clones, take the clones from a plant that has been forced to branch more through early topping/FIM'ing or LST'ing. More branches = more clones.it will be easier for me to construct a full size room for the mother plant, realistically, as I have altered MY room by adding a false wall.
Any time the plant has shoots that are 3 nodes large or larger, the bigger the better. Did you check Al B's thread?shadowgrower1 said:I am not sure when to clone my babies and not harm them...
You could use CFLs and the HPS if you wanted to as long as the plant has a few layers of true leaves. Start the HID light high and use your hand to judge the temp, if your hand is too hot your light is too close or in need of a cooling solution.shadowgrower1 said:Status Update:

Im planning on doing a total of 15-20 plants, using 800 watts total. Both these lights will be on small tracks that run across the length of the room(about 5 feet) This first crop now is to establish a mother plant or two...A mother plant doesn't need much space, a shelf unit with CFLs or a tub or box with CFLs will be plenty, shouldn't need a whole room if you keep mothers for only three months and replace with clones. its not a incandes, its a 65 watt plant light, or so walmart said when I bought it. lol.Hey,
I would LST the tall lanky plants and lower your flouros, also man what the heck is this?
Is that an incandescent bulb? Do your self a favor and remove it quick, put a 100W equivalent CFL on it and maybe a few more flouros or CFL bulbs surrounding your plants.
It looks like your feeding them, I see signs of over caring. Remember that this plant likes drought and low nute levels and a slightly lower pH in the soil. Try to starve one and see what happens. Basically just give it no nutes at your next watering. I'll post some photos up later tonight or tomorrow for a suggested way to do your lighting and how it works with my current seedlings.
After LST'ing the tall ones be sure to lower the flouro tube as close to the plant as you can or raise the plants. They need to be 2"-4" away from the tops to be productive.
Also, darkdestruction420 is correct about a vegging plant showing sex usually around the 8th node in an optimal environment or after a couple of weeks of 12/12.

im pretty sure those plant lights are just incandesents, but since your 400 is arriving soon that point is moot. lower shoots root faster so try to take clones from the lowest node ya can. dont take this personal or nothing but maybe you should just start some new seeds bro, them ones their are kinda stretched bad and look like you *loved and cared*for them a lil too much. i wish you the best of luckits not a incandes, its a 65 watt plant light, or so walmart said when I bought it. lol.
I fed them once when I was starting, and they got some Nute burn. I added nutes a 2nd time thinkin they were big enough to handle it, FAIL. lol. I know better now.
my 400 should be here today, and im gonna rearrange the room so that the floro is underneath, the 400 is above, and the Walmart light is oscillating ontop of that fan back and forth between the four of them.
I also need to know how to tell which nodes are clonable nodes and which ones, well, aren't. hehe. Off to work guys. Thanks for all the advice, ill be on tonight.
Been gone awhile, I've been working. Anyone still alive?i dont see any nodes you can really clone from in that pic btw.
