even though im 18 i still live with my dad and he is letting me turn my closet into a grow room its 4 foot wide 3 foot deep and 5'5 foot high. i will only have 6 plants so i can let them get decent sized. i want to use a hps but i dont know what watt to get. and with nutrients can some one give me a grociery list with spacific names of stuff cause i have no idea about them. and what soil would you recommend that i could pick up from home depot. also any other advice would be great. thanks
mike

like fdd said go with a 600 watter for 6 plants. 100 watts per plant of hps will turn out some good results. I grow hydro but i use Botanicares line of pure blend pro. all organic and works great. it can also be used in soil in your watering routines. if you can try to vent your light. you will be able to keep your temps down alot easier and be able to keep the light closer to your plants. try to find a hydroponics store in your area. you can find most of the stuff u need at HD, lowes etc. but there is no replacement for a good hydroponics store because they have better nutrients, lights and what not than home improvement stores will. if you dont go with a nute that has a higher N during veg and then a nute with a lower N and a higher PK during flowering.

i think i will keep it down to 4 plants so i will be able to get them bigger and so i can use just a 400 watt. would the 400 watt hps be good for veg and flower?

Didn't mean to steer you away from a 600w. Just saying to make sure it's well vented. I am using a 400w in a closet area and it gets pretty warm.

yes u can but i highly reccommend getting a metal halide conversion bulb for your veg states. metal halides put out the blue spectrum(mimicking the days of summer) and the hps puts out the red spectrum(mimicking the days of fall). Mh's are the best for vegging because u get really good growth and studys have found that more blue light when they are younger usually produces more females. you can use the hps for vegging but your results wont be near what they would be if you use a metal halide conversion bulb. i have a 250w mh for my veg box and 1200 watts of hps in my flowering room. my plants are about 3 weeks into flowering and around 50-53 days old i think from sprout. they are all over 4 feet tall. i noticed explosive growth during veg with my MH. thats my 2 cents

Very interesting . I knew about the red and blue lights but I didn't know about the female ratio thing.
Cool

man u have no idea. i set up my whole grow room and my buddy got the worst seeds in the land. Doggie Nute White Widow feminized. $250 for 10! anyways which makes it worse is that only 6 germinated(4 being inviable, green seeds). then 1 came out a male and 1 came out a hermie. makes me wanna cry. but the company gave us a refund. still kinda sucks. never buy from doggie nuts or pukka seeds ever! EVER!
