This post was purely a FYI to people who wanted to read the article on the sad state of governmental decisions and general tactics. This thread was not in relation to sorting out world economics, although I believe the legalisation and better understanding of weed and many other drugs would make the world a more profitable place for all to live in. I have an Economics degree so don't get me started as I can be quite boring at times.....

Check out the documentary "Cannabis - The Evil Weed?", which covers this specific issue.
It's quite well balanced and in the end they say that while there is evidence that THC is not always harmless it is certainly not something to be vilified.
The researchers found that in *developing* brains THC had an impact on cognitive functions, so it's a good idea to keep it out of the hands of teens, but that it doesn't really hurt developed brains that much.
They also found that if you're a THC user and you start using heroin you need more heroin to get high. BUT the desire threshold for heroin in the test animals was no different between the THC and control animals. So they nixed one aspect of the gateway drug myth. The other part, where it's argued that it's a gateway drug because dealers sell more than one drug, can simply be nullified by making it legal to grow your own pot. Poof. No more silly controversy there either.
Anyway, while they found that THC can have a detrimental effect on developing brains, and may affect psychosis/schizophrenia, they also found another cannibinoid in pot which has great promise for treating them.
Plus the video shows a warehouse full of plants that is just beautiful
