Can you tell if a seed is good or bad?

I've managed to get some seeds... I have no idea what they are. But it came from a baggy of weed that some chump was selling as bud. But, it was obviously was a male plant and there were seeds in the baggy.

Anyways, question to the pros and joes. Can you tell just by looking at a seed if it's gonna be good or not? Like does color, and size indicate anything? I got some pics, will this be worth my while?

Take the seeds in hand and pinch them hard between two fingers, they should be able to withstand quite a bit. If they POP or crush, they are no good. A good darker color or dark patterns on them tend to suggest it's a good mature seed.

It's a dark brown with black stripes around it, and they are pretty hard. Won't pop unless it put in on a table and crush it with something. By, the looks of the color from the picture... would you plant them?

You want the big brown seeds, white and black seeds are no good. If they float, they're good.....if they sink, they have a hole in them already and won't be any good.

YEa i would. Germinate them first tho, then plant.

I had seed with greenish colour when I plant them, they are hard enough yes, and germs fine for me. Many people say greenish colour is no good, but not for me. The fact is (apart from those hollow easy pop seeds), you won't know until you try to germ them.

I'm attempting to germinate them. I'll get some pics up if they sprout.

i wont bother growing erm they prob b rubbish-its obvioulsy amature hour so best thing u should do is buy some decent ones online.Growning stuff out bags u buy on the street is likely to be really bad or bushweed.either way aint worth the aggrevation or risk as im guesing your bit younger.Mayb im wrong mayb they will grow into super potent white widow female plants

I've got them in tupper wear container between moist paper towels in a drawer... Is this a good or poor method of germinating them? Should i just put them into some peat moss? I read somewhere that just putting them in peat moss works. I guess 22 is young.. what gave it away? This is my first attempt of starting from scratch. I bought a couple plants off a friend that was in the flowering stage and watched them bloom. I didn't go the greatest tho, I think I harvested them way to early. Here are some pics of them a couple days b4 i chopped em, and them a 3 days into drying. I prolly should have made this thread in the newbie section... :S

thats what i thought... how much more weeks should I have waited? Can anyone tell what kind of plants these were by looking at it? Thnx for the link, I'm reading through it..... Well, I thought it was male cause it was all leaves and seeds in the bag, no bud at all. And, I did not get high one bit off it.
