I'm posting this because when I had been researching this little project from the get-go, I had a hard time finding a thread that discussed what to expect in terms of a yield.
My setup is a 600W HPS lamp in an indoor tent from Grow Labs.
I had nine plants - one Pure Power, one Blue Cheese, one LSD, and the rest of them were White Widow.
One problem that I had - which I had not expected - was that one of the plants hermied, and the resulting pollen explosion impacted all nine plants (some moreso then others.)
Total yield was 10.5 oz from all plants. I think I would have broken the lb barrier had it not been for the seed issue.
While it's hard to say with 100% certainity what stressed out the plants to get the hermie, I think it was from pruning them aggressively to cut off all the low growth in an effort to get more top production.
I used the same tent for drying - just turned off the light (light wrecks your bud when drying) and hung the cones up from the ceiling via hangers and clips, and for the satilitte nugs I filled a bunch of foil cake tins after setting some paper towel on the bottom of them. They were dry in just a few short days.
As for the buzz - the White Widow, which I had expected to be a couchlock high, actually turned out to be a very clear-headed buzz that lasts for HOURS. My buddy smoked it and stayed "high" (not just stoned, but high) for over FIVE HOURS! The Pure Power was ok... has a really nice citris smell to it when you burn it, but not the same intensity or duration as the White Widow. The LSD, from Barney's Farm... honestly, I was disappointed in the high! It reminded me of Beasters (Big Bud) which is all over the place up here, totally saturating the local market. However, the Blue Cheese was the suprise sleeper... in my own humble opinion, it had the best high of the bunch - the taste is OUT OF THIS WORLD, possibly the best tasting bud I have smoked.
Right now I've got the whole lot curing in glass Mason jars with about 1/2 a z in each one, burping them 1x a day for 15 minutes. Make sure to cure! It makes all the differance in the world.
Also, when it's time to harvest, expect a serious investment of time. Me and one friend spent 12 hours straight to process just nine plants. Getting a couple helpers is well worth the 1/8 to 1/4 that you will end up gifting them for a days "work".
The best yielding plants were the White Widow. Each one pulled in a heavy harvest. The pure power was also decent - ended up with over 1oz of PP. The LSD produced about 1.25 oz. The Blue Cheese was, sadly, the least productive plant... ended up with only 1/2 a oz after drying.
Other first time issues that I had to deal with:
- starting out, had the light too high. Ended up stretching some plants out from that and had to correct it by mounding soil around the stretched out droopy stem.
- pruning! there's a whole art to pruning well. I think that this next time, I'm going to experiment and try a full cycle without ANY pruning at all to see how it comes and to avoid the seed issue.
- heat! i got into the habit of running the tent with the door open when lights were on to resolve heat issues.
hope this helps someone! i'm now done with my first grow... and already on the second
