Question...

I am trying to plan everything out before hand and I have not seen this topic talked about or I haven't found it. Can I have plants on a 24 hour light schedule to an 18 hour schedule? Basically one month of 24 hours and then turn down to 18 hours?

Or do I have to choose the photo period I want from day 1 ?

Thanks...

You can reduce the light to 18 with out causing them to flower. I wouldn't run 24 hour light cycle. I know some people do it but i think it is retarded. The point of having a light "cycle" id to give your plants a chance to rest and grow. This is the time when plants don't have to use their energy for photosynthesis. They use that energy to grow. Plants have evolved over millions of years to expect it to get dark. When it doesn't they freak out and do crazy shit like go hermi. But that is just my opinion.

But what about places where the sun is run on a 24 hour cycle for months at a time? That is the hole in my thinking.

Ok Ive always ran 24 hours a day in veg, not because Im a retard, its because your nodes grow closer together and will result in fatter buds when u go to flower because HID lights will cause your plant to strech considerably. Now whos the retard ??? LOL Ok from experience just go into 12/12 whenever you are ready to flower. 18/6 is for newbs. And as for plants doing better in 18/6. No they just stretch more in the dark thats solves that lil mystery doesnt tit ?? None of mine ever go hermie so I would have to think the grower is stressing them somehow.

I said people do it. It doesn't mean it's the right thing to do or even good for it. I also said this is my humble opinion. But I can tell you this. Fucking around drastically with light cycles is the number one way to cause hermaphrodites. Where in the world is the sun up 24 hour a day. Don't say Alaska because the sun even goes gown there in the summer for like an hour. Rest is good. Everything grows at night when it is resting. I am also not a fan of growing 12/12 from seed but people do that too. I think if you ask around or start a poll you will find that most people run closer to an 18/6 or 16/8 to veg and 12/12 or 11/13 to flower.

HID bulbs in fact will cause your plants to stay short, fat, intact small spacing between nodes & flower when ready grow up to be beautiful ladies. The bigger the root space the bigger the lady + experience plays a part too.

Why do you have to be such an ass. I never said anything about you. I said in my opinion I think it is retarded. Then you get all dickish about it and say shit like "now who's the retard". Don't project your insecuritys on me punk.

Old Sport, lol, the sun doesn't shine for months at a time anywhere on Earth! In the polar regions there are extreme days of 23+ hours of sunlight for a week or 2 during their respective summers. But the operative word here is POLAR! Not too many outdoor grows around there, lol. I wish you good luck & good grow.......BB

U Know people like 18/6 some like 20/4 & others like 24/0 it's all preffrence .. that dont mean that either is better than the other..that dude made it sound like his advice is all wise and noble and the rest are idiot piece of shit newbs

It is totally all preference when it comes to growing plants. Everyone will succeed at this if they water their plants and pay attention to them. It's like having a dog or a pet fish. If you pay attention to it and feed it it will grow and give you enjoyment.

Plants are not humans and do not require rest. In fact, plants do most of their stretching during what you call a "rest" period. They stretch for light. They do not shut down. Ever.

In closing: Plants have no anthropomoprhic qualities. Using logic based on the human condition for things that are not human is stupid. More stupid than pretending to know about botany while knowing nothing about botany.
