def pad the rail or everything will buzz/hum like a bitch.
i use the 4' hydrofarm light mover.
it solved my heat issues by allowing me to run one 600w hps light efficiently over the same space that i had two covering before.
there are a few issues with the hydrofarm movers.
-they do not "stall out" at the end of the rail. the plants under the middle of the rail are always getting some moderately direct light and therefore grow more than the plants under the end of the rail.
- you can only hang your hood "sideways". ie the ducting is coming out the side of the hood rather than the front and the back. thus, when the hood is moving, the ducting has to move with it rather than just expanding and contracting to accommodate. (i drilled holes in my hood to hang it the way i needed it..
- if you don't get your ducting set right, it puts pressure on the hood and twists it. if the hood twists too much, it will pop off of the chain and then hang wherever it feels like. if you don't catch it in time, your plants either get burned to hell or they just grow unevenly.
your only choice other than hydrofarm movers are intellimovers.
the intellimovers are almost twice the price of a hydrofarm mover, but are way better.
-materials are better. the hydrofarm movers are kinda light and cheap.
-you can set a stall time of 0-60 seconds. this is key to growing an even canopy.
-it uses a pressure wheel drive system rather than a chain, eliminating the chance that the mover will fail.
the hydrofarm mover works for me.
it took ame roughly two weeks of tweaking to get it right.
i had to make lots of mods (like a cup of pennies on top of the hood to counter th weight of the socket..) to get it to work, but now it works mint.
if you want a no hassles, work out of the box, uber reliable unit, go with the intellimover.
my room is six feet long so i had to go with a four foot model.
if i could have fit a six foot model in the room, i would have gotten the 6' intellimover.
