My very 1st grow.. very ghetto to start!

Nah, at the moment im just preparing for my new grow, i do like the look of your grow alot and i would like to follow in your footsteps

I have done alot of research on law, growing and harvesting over the last year and il put up a grow journal soon

As for being near one of the big cities, that could effect the rain water suply so maybe not :S

The distilled water was for the seedling cycle, just in case. I think I'll try switching between rainwater and evaporated tap for the remainder of the plant's life. Would boiling the tap water be as good as letting it sit?

Boiling your tap water rather than letting it sit would be BRILLIANT for your plants mate, just make sure its at a good temperature before watering

Yeah, still around and the grow is doing fine. Just been busy with mad shit so I can't post a full update yet. There's really not much to report as of now, other than a large fan leaf stretching into one of the CFLs and burning off its tips.

Some of the lower leaf sets are starting to really grow out thanks to LST. They look like those big, upper leaves looked when they were younger I don't think I'm quite ready to follow that diagram, but I'm pretty sure I understand how to do basic LST: you bend the plant down so that the light hits the lower leaves, and you keep bending it in different directions until all the small lower leaves grow to be like the big ones on top. Again, thanks for your the help. You probably doubled my future yield with the LST advice alone! Let's just hope it's a female.

Im glad that your still here and that the lady's still alive. And yes you are exactly right, by bending your plant your alowing more light to penatrate deeper into your lower growth thus resulting in it actually growing instead of putting it's energy into the upper branches. Another method you might like to try is SCROG. Just search around on the forum you can learn alot.
Would like to see some pictures to see how its doing after your initial bend.

Well I decided finally to make an account and dive in, so heres the first post of many hopefully... Been following this a bit, my mind is crammed from learning so much the past few days from different journals. Definitely subscribed to this, although I can't offer too much advice lol.

Anyway a few questions cause I'm looking into something pretty ghetto and beginner for now - You just have this in like a plain cardboard box, in a pot, with a light in the box? Did you coat the walls in foil or anything, and is it just a regular small desk fan in there with it?

Either way definitely excited to watch this turn out, friend of mine had a decent yield from something similiar to this. Any more pictures of the setup itself is appreciated. Good luck man

OK, time for a full update! The plant is doing fine, although it would be doing a hell of a lot better with more light and some nutes.

Punchout, as of right now the plant is under a 23W 6500K CFL screwed into a desk light (kinda like this one), along with the 13W CFL it was originally under when it was in the box. It's just sitting on a desk now with nothing reflecting light around it, and a medium sized desk fan set on low is providing the breeze. If you decide to set up a grow, let me know how it goes; same for you storkypig. Thanks for looking guys, and good luck!

I know that I will have to move this thing to a well-lit box soon, but I don't yet have a place to do it. I may end up having to cram it into a computer case somehow .

If anyone is wondering where half of that fan leaf went, that was the leaf that ended up stretching against the CFL and burning itself.

Very nice, this is by far my favorite grow. I look on here and most people have like $500 and up builds and giant grow rooms, I'm like wtf mate. Nice to see just plain old dirt and water doing the trick so far. There really is no reason why it wouldn't work as long as your nice to it ya dig? But looks good keep it going and I'll be setting something up probably after the new year (I go home for break and such.) But I think I'm gonna hollow out a small 2 drawer cabinet or something so it's stealthy, roommates prolly would get all uptight about it. Good luck!

But yeah, weed is just that.. a weed. I don't know how technically correct that statement is, although I've found Cannabis to be harder to kill than it is to grow. As long as you can follow detailed instructions and set aside some free time for studying the history and basics of the plant, you can grow it. Don't listen to the "weed snobs" who insist you need HIDs, organic soil, tons of fertilizer, PPM meters, etc to grow something worth smoking. You can do fine with some decent soil, CFLs, and 'stale' tap water, although the hardcore growing equipment will of course give you wayyy better results in less time.

Here's some food for thought: A buddy of mine tossed some seeds into a pot, left it outside over the summer, and forgot about it. A couple of months later, he stumbled upon the same pot, except it now had two little ladies ready to bloom! He flowered indoors under 3 23W CFLs, and the results were easily as good as the high-end bud I was used to buying here.

Good luck with your grow, bro.. if you want something stealthy, think about a PC case grow. "Autoflower" strains--which don't get very big and flower independent of any light cycles--are perfect for PC cases. Nice grow man, i too love this grow... so urban and proves you don't need to splash out on $500 CO2 systems and $1000 light systems... (I cant realy talk, ive splashed out $180 for a 400w HPS light)

Shame about that fan leaf dude, i hope it hasn't effected the plant in any way or anything and i can see the SOG starting off... your baby's sure have grown up alot since the last pictures and look like mature women now

Exactly, anyone can grow weed with $50 and a dream . An HID is a great investment though. If I was using a 400 HPS, my plant would probably be twice the size, if not bigger.

The leaf doesn't seem to be affecting anything, AFAIK. I just hope this thing isn't a male. I'm going to water it tonight, then try sexing it after a few days. If it's a female, I'll run out and buy more lights and maybe some nutes. If it's a male, I'll just let it grow for a couple more weeks then try to make some hash.

hey man it looks nice, i would bet you that that is female just by the node spaceing it has. Its looking really good to. I just picked up 10 widow clones from a buddy that i will get some pics of soon. Its pouring rain and dark outside so i dont want to go bug them. i would wait a couple more weeks to switch over to flowering. That plant has just started to enter the veg cycle when its about twice that size then you should switch to 12/12, your yeild will be considerably higher than if you flower now. But thats all up to you, it looks like you got it under control.

I just started mine ummm.. actually 2 weeks EXACTLY. and mine are coming along ok i guess.. i was actually thinking about LST'ing my plants as well.. or maybe 1 or 2 of them.. just to see what a difference it makes. and yeaaa. im on a tight budget too... man.. if the govt. only knew what i was spending my unemployment checks on... lmao but yeaaa your plants are looking really good tho. I had a couple of the same problems too well with the tips of the leaves burning... im debating on cutting the tips off.. i heard that helps.. but ive heard that its not good as well. lol. but keep us updated on how the LTS method is going.. because im really debating on doing that too.. i started my grow journal a couple days ago.. but no-ones really wrote back to it yet.. your lucky you got people interested in your grow and givng you all these tips. lol. iight. wel im off to go water my Lady's now. (hoping that theyre Lady's)

Hey good to hear from you again. Lemme know when you up the pics, I'd love to see them. I really hope my baby is female, cause I doubt I'll be able to make hash out of a male if it stinks up the house. I'm going to wait as long as possible to flower, but there are circumstances beyond my control that may force me to flower early. I want to sex the plant by force blooming a single node using the cover-it-with-kraft-paper-for-12 hours-a-day trick. I'm still not exactly sure what part of the plant I'm supposed to cover though.

For now, I'm giving it a break from LST and the fan so it can get a little taller. I got rid of the fan temporarily cause it's kinda cold in that room, and I think keeping the plant warm is more of priority than building up the already strong stem. There should be enough natural airflow in there to keep the plant breathing right. Check out the pics, lemme know what you think.

Nice to see another fan of the grow . LST is definitely worth it, my plant is far more dense now and I'm not quite done with LST yet. As for the leaf tips, how many of yours are burnt, and how did it happen? Mine burnt because it stretched against the light, so it wasn't really a problem with the plant itself. If you have several leaf tips that are wilting or turning colors for no apparent reason, it could be due to nutrients, soil, etc. Send me a link to your journal and I'll check it out, although I'm not quite an expert yet .

heyyy. umm. ok im not exactly sure why my tips of my leaves are burning to tell you the truth..? lol. ive had some people say it was because of the nutes.. saying i was adding too much.. and other people say it was because of the light.. and then i have a leave or two that look a little bit yellow.. and im guessing thats because of a nitrogen deficiency.. and the nutes im using are HIGH in nitrogen.. its like 24-8-16.. i have a pic of the nutes and soil im using posted in my grow journal.. but its kinda like a catch 22.... the tips of my leaves are burning from too much nutrients... but they leaves are also turning yellow due to nute deficiency.. lol. i was thinking the tips were burning because of the lights.. because i had ONE incandescent bulb in there.. a 100 watt one.. it was one of the daylight bulbs. i know its best to use CFL's but they dont give off much heat at all.. and soo the incandescent bulb was good for that. because without it.. my room was a little chilly. lol but i just got this new clamp light thingy (like the ones you see on the tops of turtle or snake cages.. theyre metal and coned shape kinda) ill put pics up on my log in a little bit.. and i put the incandescent bulb in there and placed it way above my plants.. and that seemed to stop the burning AND keep the plants warm.. i was going to say.. maybe that would help you out some too.. because i know you said you turned off your fan because it was getting too cold... i paid $6.50 at wal mart for that light clamp.. and it has a 150 watt bulb max on it (which isnt bad at all) and maybe u can but a 150 watt incandescent bulb (theyre like 3 bucks maybe 4 at the most) and place it far enough away from your plants to keep them from burning.. but close enough to where it gives off enough heat so that you can turn your fan back on.. because from what i hear.. keeping the air circulating helps alot.. and id just hate to see your plant start dying or not be strong enough over something simple like having your fan on... know what i mean?? ok. ok. im rambling on.. i tend to do that in the morning..... but yeaaa im about to go check on my babies.. and take some pics in a little bit and post them in my journal.. heres the link to mine
