Majority in U.S. Favors Healthcare Reform This Year

Controlling costs a higher priority than expanding coverage

by Jeffrey M. Jones

PRINCETON, NJ -- As U.S. House leaders unveil a plan to reform the U.S. healthcare system, a USA Today/Gallup poll finds 56% of Americans in favor and 33% opposed to Congress' passing major healthcare reform legislation this year. Support for healthcare reform before the end of the year is sharply split along party lines, with 79% of Democrats in favor, compared with only 23% of Republicans.

Could you post a more generic poll? of course most people want reform that's a no brainer. the poll should ask "do you support a government run healthcare program which requires all americans to purchase a plan" and I can guarantee you the numbers would not be the same.

Not to mention those numbers are four months old.

L-O-fucking-L at TheDemocrat and his stale data!

The Rasmussen data is fresh right up to before the cloture vote in the Senate this most recent Saturday night.

Plus the Rasmussen poll is specifically about Obama's bill while the other is generic about heathcare reform. hell, all the republicans want healthcare reform, just not socialized medicine. When Obama's name is attached, it goes down 20%. Interesting.

Fog is funny. I agree about the Rasmossen being newer and about the fact that EVERYONE wants healthcare reform. just not sociolized medicine or forced insurance. Just my opinion though

actually thats quite incorrect

your post hosted no substance, no opinion, no evidence, no suggestion

just bashing the credibility of the poll because YOU dont agree with it

if you dont agree with it, find something that contradicts it, state your opinion, dont just put a snide little insulting remark because you dont agree with it

When it is labeled "Obamacare", it necessarily draws in repuke votes. If labeled as healthcare reform, which it is, it recieves a more favorable vote. By labeling something to project hate or avarice, it attracts the more idiotic crowd of opposition to anything Obama. Hence the low numbers. Geeze people, do I really have to explain this?

as does any other poll MM. its all subjective unless you have the raw data and pull a conclusion yourself. So im not too sure what your point is. Also while taking the survey im sure Do you support ObamaCare? was not the question. rather it was do you support the bill or ideas to be put in the bill that are from obama. And that would still even be somewhat biased. Usually though the poll takers approach the ?surveyee? and not the other way around or all polls would be useless infobased on radical opinions

If you tell people that they are going to get free health care every freeloader in the country will be in favor of it. It's when you tell the truth and reality of the situation that it will actually cost more and lower the standards for everyone that intelligent people are against it.

It's when the truth about Obamacare comes out that the majority is against it. That 38% in favor is even lower than the percentage of Americans that don't pay any federal income tax.
