If your using HPS, do you tend to start them off with the HPS, or do you like to hit them with the MH or CFLS for the first couple weeks?

all i used to have was a 250w hps so i vegged then flowered with it but now i keep that on permenent flower,
i have a small veg box with 3 blue spec 23w cfls in there, i get them goin with the cfls then whack em into flower under the hps.
but theres no prob in stickin them straight under hps i done it loads, just dont get it to close and dont put it to far away as to cause stretchin, depends on ur wattage as to hw far away to put it,

I have grown for 19 years and have found the best start you can give your seedlings is from 250watt cfl's. Far outgrows MH and HPS up till about day 12, then I switch. The internodal development is far superior also and the petiole thickness is greater. I give this advice from having tried each and every method with strains I have grown for years.

take it easy on u seedlings hps may harm but can b done. try filtering the light a litle for the first couple days...

no way im a cfl hater and im not having it. get a glass cover to control the heat. they cant get enough light ever just watch the heat their sensitive

Thank you all for the input. I am going to try out cfls, see how they do for the first couple weeks, then continue vegging* with HPS.
Soo at 250 watt CFL? does it plug into a regular socket? Im new to cfls, maybe I should start a thread in the CFL section?

Yes, the light housing has its own built in ballast, you can get great reflectors for them that allow two to sit side by side, 500watts! 6500k lights on 24/0 for 12 days. Mine are a foot tall from seed by this time with 6 or 7 internodes, pisses all over hps or mh... Envirolights are the name.
