Guaranteed Easy & Effective Old Fashioned Tincture Method
Tincture methods are entirely based on personal preference and taste. This method is pure and fundamental. It does not produce a great tasting tincture. This is a tincture for people who just want to get extremely blazed and jam out.. 'Nuff said.
Here is my method:
Grind, Shake, Titrate!
A few people have told me I must cure my nugs before I throw them into alcohol.. fiddlesticks! Volatile terpenoids and cannabinoids begin to break down at room temperature, and in fact terpenes contribute to the quality of your buzz. So in my opinion, to capture the entire essence of the bud in your tincture, don't bother curing or baking, etc. You can use any part of the plant, resin, stems and even slightly molded bud, but keep in mind if you use low quality bud to start with, you might want to use more to compensate.
STEP ONE
For step 1 you'll need:
-At least 2g bud per oz. of alc (95%+, the stronger the better)
-Heating pad
-Glass jar(s)
-Coffee grinder
-Jasmine & Lavender (optional, but recommended)
Grind up the bud in your coffee grinder. You can also add fresh Jasmine and Lavender*, but grind a couple stems last because it makes cleaning up the resins stuck to the grinder much easier. Next, throw all the material into your glass jar and fill with your alcohol. Seal tightly and shake for as long as you can stand. Now leave your tincture in a cool, dark (no light at all), dry room on top of a heating pad for 4-6 weeks, shaking as much as possible, but at least twice daily. I use a sunbeam heating pad, which tops out at around 140f. Google to make sure your pad heats to at least 122f* (e.g. http://www.sunbeam.com/Faqs.aspx?section=health-and-home&fid=74).
*Jasmine disinfects, smells good and its acidic, which will help break down plant matter more rapidly. Lavender has a calming effect and soothes upset stomaches.
*THC-Acid begins decarboxylation at 122f (50c)
STEP TWO
For step 2 you'll need:
-Cheesecloth
-2 Bowls
-Rubberband
-Fan (or some sort of air flow)
-Gloves (optional)
It's been 4-6 weeks and you're ready to strain out the bulk. Some say use gloves because this can be messy and if you get too much on your hands blah, blah, blah. Using your rubberband, fasten your cheesecloth to your glass jar, leaving some slack at the mouth of the jar to cup the bulk of the material. Carefully pour the liquid out into your bowl, grasp the shake ball, twist and press all of the ooze out of it, agitating it several times. Put the spent shake ball in your other bowl (you can dry it and use it later if you want to make budder). Cover the bowl with the cheesecloth and store in your cool, dry room. Let about 3/4ths (less or more) of the alcohol evaporate. Use a fan to speed up the evaporation process. This can take up to three days.
STEP THREE
For step 3 you'll need:
-Glass jar(s)
You've reduced your tincture to taste and now all you need to do is pour it into a jar where it can be stored. After that, "its up to you what you really wanna do..."
The beauty of this method is that over the course of 4-6 weeks the THC-Acid decarboxylates slowly at 122F+, activating the thc/cbd/cbn while locking in the less volatile terpenoids. Plus when using pure, potent grain alcohol, the concoction can be stored for long periods of time. The acid in the Jasmine is also helpful.
At this point you may still want to 'cure' the tincture (recommended) to get your own desired effect. You can do this by leaving it on the heating pad while storing and/or heating small amounts (which I put in an eyedropper bottle) in a water bath. I prefer to simmer a couple ounces at 200f for 20 min, add a teaspoon of sugar, and finish at 225f for a few more minutes. Try different temperatures and times for different effects, and titrate your dose. A few drops is all I need!

Tips:
-If you like to chew on stems, you can throw a chunky stem in your final product to let it soak up some goodies. Put the stem in your lip like you would chewing tobacco and enjoy. Good for baseball games
-Use wide mouth mason jars, easier to clean.
-Don't grind your bud to powder, just flakes, easier to strain.
-If you don't have a heating pad, but you have hot weather, put your tincture in a black box (to shield and absorb light) under direct sunlight.
-Alcohol boils at about 172f, be careful exceeding 225f in a water bath. Active ingredients will begin to vaporize at 260f. I do not suggest exceeding this.
-If you can't stand the taste of your tincture, you can always add honey/sugar or reduce the alcohol and add glycerin to the resin for a sweet taste.
I promise you this is a potent method, but if all else fails and you still don't like your tincture, you can always reduce it until it becomes a tar consistency, and enjoy it like hash. You could also just dip fresh nugs in the tincture and let them dry to make them super potent, which is awesome by the way. Lastly, don't throw away your shake ball! I made some kick ass butter with it, and it also works great for brewing beer or tea. Honestly, your friends will be amazed at all the by-products you can make with this stuff, so you really have nothing to lose!
