holding your smoke in

Marijuana in the Body

Every time a user smokes a marijuana cigarette or ingests marijuana in some other form, THC and other chemicals enter the user's body. The chemicals make their way through the bloodstream to the brain and then to the rest of the body. The most powerful chemical in marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), which is primarily responsible for the "high" associated with the drug.

The most common way of using marijuana is smoking. Smoking is also the most expedient way to get the THC and other chemicals into the bloodstream. When the smoke from marijuana is inhaled, the THC goes directly to the lungs. Your lungs are lined with millions of alveoli, the tiny air sacs where gas exchange occurs. These alveoli have an enormous surface area -- 90 times greater than that of your skin -- so they make it easy for THC and other compounds to enter the body. The smoke is absorbed by the lungs just seconds after inhaling.

You can also eat marijuana. In this case, the marijuana enters the stomach and the blood absorbs it there. The blood then carries it to the liver and the rest of the body. The stomach absorbs THC more slowly than the lungs. When marijuana is eaten, the levels of THC in the body are lower, but the effects last longer.

very informative about the alveoli in the lungs. that alone should prove that holding in a hit 10-15 seconds or more is unnecessary.

how does that prove it?

the THC is throughout the smoke. the longer the smoke is in your lungs the more it moves around. the more it moves around the more it touches the alveoli. the THC must touch the alveoli to be absorbed. the more it touches it the more that is absorbed. holding it in longer allows more time for it to be fully absorbed.

elevator hits. :weed:

i could be wrong.

my thought's exactly,if you hold smoke in your mouth, for 5-10 sec,it turns brown, should be the same for the lungs:spew:at the most,5 sec

Yea,

I tell my wife to hold it in, it is the only way to get her to shut her mouth when she is stoned.

Peace - :peace:

I think this is bs. I've always noticed that when you hold it in longer, you get higher. That's not to say that if you hold it in for like 2 mins your gonna be way higher than say if you had held it in for 42 secs, there is a limiting point but it is most definitely not 10 seconds or some shit like that. Its more like 20-30 seconds.

Me personally, I count down to 42 seconds in my head everytime I take a hit.
I just took a rip held it in for 15 seconds blew out hardly anything.... granted I have been a heavy smoker for years once it goes in it never returns bongsmilie hope i don't get an ulcer. I doubt its 5 seconds but scientifically speaking the seconds it hits your lungs/tissue it is tech. supposed to be absorbed into the stream then strait to the mind.... why do you think you get high so quick while smoking a blunt there is my 2cents
