Growing from Seed.

I know if you are growing from a clone - after you start it - you can trim back the leaves to make the plant focus on root production. I don't care about whether this is true or not or whatever.

All I want to know is - If I started from seed - and it got to the size of your basic clone, would it be safe to trim back the biggest top leaves to force it to focus more energy on the roots? Basically would it be safe or is the seedling in to sensitive stage of life to do this?

Thanks.

I have never heard of anyone doing this, but a good way to build your root and stem system is to keep a small breeze on the plant and also giving it enough hours of darkness. I personally wouldn't cut any of the major top leaves, your plant needs the leaves for photosynthesis and without them light absorption will be compromised thus inhibiting its growth.

It looks to me like you may have only grown clones in the past. Don't worry too much about root systems when you are starting from seeds. Like any plant, cannabis is going to develop as strong of a root system as it can from the time the seed sprouts to the time it dies, but when a cutting is planted root systems must be monitored carefully. Basically, when growing from seeds your pretty much guaranteed a good root system given you don't fuck up with nutrients, watering, transplanting, lighting, etc...

Good luck with your plants!

I just purchased a nutrient from my hydro store called "oregonism", and its supposed to enhance root growth. I can say that the root growth in my current DWC has blown my mind. honestly, this plant has at least doubled in size in just a few days, and you can basically sit there and watch the roots grow lol. but yea as far as soil I think if you provide the roots enough room and everything they'll grow fine. I prune my plants and FIM, LST, etc, but its mostly to branch out the top of the plant, not sure what it would do for the roots
